Hi Tom,

I don't have any specific connection to your names though I have definitely seen them in the OPR & census whilst passing.  If you would like any specific look ups let me know, I have access to Dumfriesshire films at my local library.

Cheers,
Pam

Hi and thanks
 RODDICKS/RIDDICKS
Too numerous to mention
Born in either Rothwell,St. Mungo,Lochmaben, Moffat or Dalton
In the 1851 census some are living in Cummertrees, Dumfries, Kirkpatrick Fleming,Annan, Johnstone. Same for the Beatties. Beatties also living in Gretna and Springfield.
This is an itchy footed family who have branched far and wide. Canada, USA,New Zealand,South Africa and Argentina.
I know a lot about the later lot, but not much inf on the earlier ones

Any information you can find would be much appreciated.

Regards

Tom

I am a Roddick and maybe I can help you.  I and several others in Canada, Scotland, Wales, the USA and England have been studying the overall family for almost 20 years.  Rodddick(s) have emigrated from Scotland to England, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other places around the world.  I live in San Jose, CA.  My earliest family roots are traced to Scroggs Mill slightly east of Lockerbie.  But, Roddicks peppered the entire area of Dumfriesshire and Lanark.

I have your family in my databas and have attached a text file for your info.  Much of the current information came from New Zealand descendants.  Can you tell me the source for the father and siblings of Archibald?

Apparently you have been communicating with Steve Roddick of Wales who sent me a family tree he must have received from you.  I note some significant differences from what I sent you.  I will look forward to your comments.  Some of the generations appear mixed up within the families.  I thank you for your participation on this website otherwise I might not have found you.

Hi David,
I found your data most interesting
Some of the information I have came via New Zealand from Liz Thompson. I also accessed the 1851 census for Dumfrieshire, and the IGI to try and verify it. If you think my data may be incorrect, I am open to correction. After all I only had one Riddick in the tree a couple of months ago.

Once again many thanks for your help

I am also seeking Riddicks from where I'm not sure. My great grandfather was born in Wellington New Zealand and prior to that I have drawn a blank.
HIs name was Robert Hugh Riddick and he married a Hannah Elliott. This was her second marriage and her birth name was Elliott and her married name was Evanson.
If anyone has any information that may be useful, it would be appreciated.

Hi
I have a Donald Riddick/Ridich/Ruddich/Rudick who was in the Scots Guards.  Nearly every document I have on him spells his name differently.  He married Sarah Hasland in Lambeth in 1868 and at the time of 1881 census his family was living in the Tower of London.  He died in Essex in 1898.

I have no idea when or where he was born - possibly 1843ish.

Does he mean anything to you?  Family stories are that he ran away to join the army and changed his name - so I'm not even sure who I am looking for!!  On his marriage certificate he gives his father's name as James.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Anne-Marie

Message for Tom mainly unless anyone else can help.
I've read the Text file in this thread and found my Grandad's name right at the bottom.  Raymond.  As a result I'm very Interested in finding out if anyone has more information about the history of the NZ Riddicks and what happened before the 1700's.

Thanks

I don't know if you could help Pam?
I have found a marriage for William Walker right age to a Mary Ann Hughes 1868 they have a daughter Mary who could be Mary who was in US her mother dies 10 days after her birth but on the marriage certificate it gives William  parents as William Walker/ Margaret Roddick It comes as no surprise that there is no marriage on Scotlands people or the IGIs for this couple and no birth of William  either, nothing is ever easy. Sorry just did a quote but I am looking for any info on Roddicks I think Kirkcudbrightshire/Wigtown/they must have lived Glasgow sometime as that is where William 1844 was born mother Margaret Roddick her mother may have been Jane Craig and her father William Roddick many thanks

I know this is generally Dumfriesshire but does anyone have any information about a John (aka James?)  Edgar who married Sarah Riddicks in Whithorn, Wigtownshire in 1844.  IGI gives his name as John on the 1841 census there is a James living in the same household as Sarah.  I have looked for children on the IGI but did not come up with any. Interested as we are trying to trace a John Edgar presumed from Dumfriesshire.  Thanks

I have just joined this website and this is my first post looking for information on my Roddick connections

I have a Johnstone Smith Roddick believed to have been born in Dromore, Co. Down around 1855.  I know his father was Robert Roddick (died before 1885) and mother Jane Roddick (nee Johnstone).  Because of lack of census material in Ireland I am really stuck.  This Johnstone Smith Roddick married in Falkirk, Scotland in 1885 and went on to live in Stirling (1891 census) with wife Jane Roddick (nee Grant) and had four children (I have names).   He moved to Dublin with his family (1911 census) before emigrating to Calgary, Canada in 1924 where both he and his wife died in 1945.

The help I need is the Irish roots - confirmation of Johnstone Smith Roddick's place and exact date of birth and any details of parents Robert and Jane and ancestors.
