Title: bennett family flint
Post by: andras on Tuesday 25 October 05 11:33 BST (UK)
I am trying to trace my great grand father's family Bennett, who were a Flint family, particularly John Bennett [born in 1848 ish] who marrried Keziah Wilson[ born in holywell] in 1869.  I am told he was a sailor and sailed many a ship from Flint. Can anyone help me in my quest for information about the family and the ships he sailed?

Hi andras,
Could you please tell me exactly what kind of info are you looking for, do you have John, Keziah and their Children's Baptisms? John & Keziah's Marriage is on North Wales BMD
Reference No HOL/08/E7.
If you let me know what you want it saves me looking for things you already have.

Paul.

hi paul
thanks again for coming to me .
I am trying to establish john's father and his family.
It states on the marriage cert. between john and kezia wilson in 1869 who came from holywell ,that john's  father was a joseph bennett who came from wepre flint. On looking at the 1861 cenus there is no sign of joseph .I  know that the family sailed many a ship from the dee .this is something else i would like to find out more about .
The last thing that has puzzled me ,was when did john bennett died .

many thanks

Andras,
I know from experience that there are/were many Bennett families from Wepre (Connah's Quay as it is now).

My Bennett connection is Benjamin Bennett who owned the New Inn in CQ between approx 1850 and 1875, he was born in 1810.

When searching for Bennett's in CQ, treat them as you would Jones' in other areas - i.e. be very specific on dates, names and occupations.

I don't know if there were any others in the grave with John and Kezia as no plot number was given in the register.
I searched for the other names you mentioned without success.

Good luck

Hi, couldn't find your Bennett's in the 1861 census but have found them in the 1851 in Flint, they are Joseph, Head, aged 30, mariner, Ann, wife, aged 27, John aged 5, son, at home, Mary aged 1, daughter, at home and Louisa Jones, just down as relation, aged 14, all born in Flintshire. They are living in what looks like Mumforth Lane but am not completely sure. There is also a Esther Bennett aged 16 living in Flint, her relation to the Head of Household is given as daughter although it is not completely clear who the Head is as there are no other Bennett's in Flint on that census.

I looked on the IGI for Flint though and found an Esther Bennett baptised 1836 (about right for this Esther), parents Nathaniel and Mary Bennett. On the 1861 Flint census I found Nathaniel Bennett born 1814 and Mary Bennett born 1817 both in Flintshire so these could be her parents.

Hope this helps

Anna

Hi-I don't think that it is the Flint parish records that you need-more likely to be Connahs Quay. I have 1765 to 1837 baptisms, burials and marriages for Flint and there is only one Bennett in all of them, and then he was only a witness at a wedding in Flint in 1811.
Good Luck in your search

Hi Taffy Lee
just happened on your post while browsing Roots chat
this is probably a long shot !
I have some Bennett in my family tree, I realize how many Bennetts there are in the area and I have little info on dates but was wondering if any of the following have anything to do with your tree
Fred Bennett
Kitty Bennett marrying Frank Idris Johnson at St Mark, Connah's Quay,  Flintshire August 27 1938 she lived at 2 Cestrain St, C/Q at time
Frank lived at 39 Brook Rd Shotton
I believe they live up Wepre Drive
and had a son Raymond Johnson

Hi Shaun,

Sorry, none of them appear on my tree - although, I have only traced the direct line from myself back to Benjamin Bennett - who knows where the other branches lead??

Best wishes,

Lee

Hi Megran,

My BB (he was my G-G-G-Grandfather) was born in 1810 in Northop and died in 1874.  He owned and ran the New Inn in Connah's Quay at least between 1861 and 1881.  He married Hannah (b. 1827, Golftyn, d. 1905).

Both are buried in the church yard of St. Mark's in CQ - the headstone is still there.

They were the parents of Elizabeth, Emily, Martha, Mary, John and Thomas.

hi megran
its hard having so many benjamin bennetts to follow-are you connected to the one i usually find on family search who was born around 1798 and also married a catherine jones-according to entries on family search-but they went to utah and both died there. ???? Too many jones and bennett families in that area for me-makes it very hard.

Hi Megran,
I've got Benjamin Bennett b Mar 8, 1809 in Northop. He married Mary? and had 2 sons, Christopher b 1834, and William b 1841. Christopher is my wife's great great grandfather. It is my research of his daugter Annie Matilda that has brought me to this forum.
Any connection to your family?
Regards,
Garry

Regarding the message posted by majorsam 20.01.06.
I noted that John and Kezia Bennett both died at 28 Sydney St, Flint.
In fact Kezia died in 1922, yet my wife's auntie Annie Kelly was born in that same house in 1919.
Annie Kelly's mother was Maidie Kelly (nee Bargery) b 1900, and her mother was Annie Matilda Bennett b 1875 in Northop.
Does anyone know the relationship between Annie Matilda Bennett and John and Kezia Bennett?
Annie's father was Christopher Bennett b1834 in Liverpool. By 1851 Christopher was living in Wepre and was a Master Mariner on the River Dee.
best wishes,
Garry

Taffy Lee,
Your Benjamin Bennett was born Mar 8, 1809. His first wife was Mary and they had 2 sons Christopher b 1834, and William b 1841.
His second wife was Hannah Browne and they had John b 1851, Mary b 1852, Martha b 1855, Thomas b 1858, Emily b 1860, Elizabeth b 1862, and another Christopher b 1864.
and some of your line of Bennetts are now living in Fowey, Cornwall.
I would be interested to know if you have any info on Benjamins first wife, and their family.
Regards
Garry
