Title: FLAHERTY
Post by: Cookie Nanna on Sunday 04 January 04 11:06 GMT (UK)
 :)Hi

I am interested in the name FLAHERTY as this has popped up on my family tree.  On the Durham 1861C Mary Flaherty states she was born in Boyle.  I would be grateful for any guidance on how to get further back.
The details I have so far are as Follows:
Mary Flaherty born about 1825 Boyle married Bartholomew Ganley born abt 1827 in Sligo.  They were settled in Sunderland England in 1861 and after searching the local Parish records I have managed to find 5 children, the first of which was born 1855.  Not sure if they married in England as to date I have not been able to locate a marriage record.

I have obtained some information from a kind lister on another mailing list which shows possible parents but need guidance on how I can confirm her parents.

Would love to hear from anyone with an interest in this name.
Also any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated.
Regards
Sue

Hi,

The way to check is to go to the Boyle parish records for ther baptisms and their marriage. Was she catholic? These are available at your local family history centre from 1793 with gaps and in the national library in Dublin

Hi Kate

Thanks for the information.  Will have to sort out a visit to the local LDS centre or maybe plan a trip to Dublin.
