Hi there

You mean a family crest that is connected with your family - not your family crest.

The crest belongs to one person only - it changes everytime for other members of the family - 1st son, 2nd son, etc.

Send a message to someone or even yourself with your crest attached at the bottom (like adding a census scan to a message) this will then get your crest on the web.

Now it is on the web (prefably in rootschat) right mouse click on it, go to properties and get the address of the pic on the web.

Now post that address into the space in your profile where it says something like 'I have my own pic'

It then should come up in your profile

Yes i thought it was nice to Aaron i got it of the net Didnt know there was one. i saved it to my pictures somhow got it on the message.followed the instuctions to get it in my profile, 2 long lines, but it didnt work all i got was the cross. So i went back to my pictures and it was gone ??? but the frame was still there. Might it have somthing to do with copywrite. I am sure it said they could be downloaded. How did you do yours ???

Hi Celia,

Try this to get your pic into your profile :)

Go to your pic that you posted above

Place your cursor over it and right click once and a box will open

Click Properties and a box will open and you will see a bit that says Address:(URL)

Put your cursor over the bit that says http and then click your left mouse button and keep it pressed down and then drag your cursor over the other writing and it should become highlighted.

When you have highlighted the whole address release the left mouse button.

Ok so far? nearly done :)

Place your cursor over the highlighted address and right click and the select Copy.

Now go to your profile page and click forum profile information and using the same technique as before highlight everything thats in the box next to "I have my own pic"and then press the delete on your Keyboard, the box should now be completely empty.

Left click in the empty box to place the flashing cursor and then right click and select paste and it should copy in the address to your pic :) well that's the theory  :-\

I hope this helps,if it doesn't work we'll have to try something else,Mick ;)

Hi All,
Just for information ,
I notice that celia and Billgam have a crest atop their "New" Coats of Arms

This addition may make it easier to identify who they were issued to.

If I come up with anything I'll let you know.
Cheers Grandad james.

Hi ,
Billgam's crest is attributed  in Fairbairns to the surnames Hackwell,Hakewell, and Van-Hagen

A trefoil slipped between wings  displayed.

Can you give me a clue as to the surname yours is for Billgam  ???

Cheers
Grandad james.

Hi Celia ,
We have already done yours and Chris did a scan of the one in Fairbairns on the other topic board. Family crests.

Hi Billgam

Sorry but at present drawn a blank for Gambling in my resources.

But then having loaded my ELLIS one on to the profile I cant identify that yet. Its not Lord Howard de Warden... he's an Ellis ... not many people know that.

My grandad Ellis was connected to the peerage ..He was a butler to one.  TRUE ;D

Stop waffling james. :-X

trying for a crest, too !

I don't think I am entitled to any Coleman crests as my G-Grandfather changed his name from Kalnung (?) to Coleman in the 1880's, so I've decided on a "mug-shot" instead, drawn by my daughter (12)
