Title: Hatry Group
Post by: east end on Monday 07 November 05 01:45 GMT (UK)
I have just been looking through some documents of my grandfather who was at HMS Vernon as an instructor. There is a letter from Rear Admiral Jellicoe Rear Admiral Brock ,Sir Ian Clark Hutchinson MP and Capt George Blundell OBE. The letter is dated 1956 and it relates to a meeting of the Hatry group. Has anybody got any ideas on what this group was.regards M. Schooley

The only references I can find are to the Hatry group (Clarence Hatry group) which was a group of companies involved in a scandal in 1929 which involved forgery and illegal transactions (some companies were kept afloat by selling 'invented' shares), and led to the collapse of the companies.  Clarence Charles Hatry, the head of the group, spent nine years in jail.  He died in 1965.

It seems very strange to have a reference to this in 1956, though, so maybe it's something different.  Can you quote a little bit of the context or scan the letter in?
