Title: 1841 Census lookup - BRADEN
Post by: jean.rob on Thursday 10 November 05 21:28 GMT (UK)
Could anyone kindly assist with an 1841 lookup for a family called BRADEN - probably in Shepton Mallet.

Known family members
John Braden b1798 London, Middlesex
Elizabeth Braden b1803 Ireland
Ann Braden b1822 Watford, Hertfordshire
Matilda Braden b1823 Watford
Hannah Braden b1834 Shepton Mallet

Any information on any other family members in 1841 would assist.

Most interested in Ann Braden - believe her to be a member of this family but I could be wrong!

Found the above family (excluding Ann) in 1851 Census.

She was by then married and was Ann Brown - I have already traced her under this name in 1851 living with husband and in-laws.  Am now trying to trace her family before 1851.

Many thanks.

Many thanks for that Alli - I think these probably the right ones and the 20-year old could well be Ann - the age is about right.

Thanks for your help.

This is my Braden family also.  John was married at least 3 times.  His daughter Sarah 1832-1904 married Thomas Walden and came to Australia as did Mary Braden 1826-1861 who married William Butlin.

1841
Ancrustry has transcribed John, Elizabeth and Matilda as "Bradeen"
The others, Braden.

Thank you Trish, yes do have most of it, but didn't know the maiden name of Mary who married John in 1819 - first wife.  Thank you also for the contact.  Always something new to find.  Also I have a document call - 'Barstardy Orders' issued against John Braden in about 1833 (between wives?) he is shown as a Silk Throwster - the child was named Frank to mother Ruth Brown.  My Sarah named one of her sons Frank so feel fairly confident it is the same family.  If it is fact, it would be the only son he had.

Hello Trish, have done some more research on my Braden's - Sarah b.1831 was the daughter of John and Louisa. Louisa, born about 1801 was the daughter of William Bolton and Elizabeth Wrench.  Elizabeth Wrench was possibly born 1772 christened 4 Dec 1773 parents being Joseph (a Butcher) and Sarah at St Luke Old St Finsbury, London England.  Did you say in your earlier posts if you are connected to this family or did you just do the 'look ups'?
hope you see this post.  Dawne  :)

Yes I can see Bapts Kingston upon Thames for William/Elizabeth Bolton;

William Hill 29 Apr 1798
James Alsop 27 Oct 1799
Louisa 15 Feb 1801, birth 20 Jan 1801
Mary Ann 28 Apr 1802
John Wrench 24 Jan 1808

Possible Burial;
WILLIAM B 05 Oct 1836 same Church age 75 (1761)

Interesting as James Allsop Bolton is a Butcher in 1841 Census by 1851 a Brewers servant.

If William married Elizabeth WRENCH 12 Aug 1793 there must be earlier children than those I posted above.

Thanks for your prompt reply Trish.  And as you said there possibly should be earlier children to the marriage.  Thanks for your work.  More work for me.
