Title: HARRIS Buckingham
Post by: Mars Barr on Wednesday 01 September 04 13:28 BST (UK)
 ???

I`m trying to find any information about the HARRIS family from Tingewick Buckingham

My gt gt gt grandfather was Benjamin Harris, he married Susanna Bayliss 1804 in Tingewick.
Benjamin was a soldier in the 14th Foot regiment and spent 16 years in the East Indies, my gt gt grandmother Benedicta Harris was baptised in 1814 in Tingewick, she at some time went to Derby where she married William Copeland.

Trying to find out who were Benjamin`s parents and where he was baptised, his army papers say he was born in or near Tingewick.

Any suggestions?? please

There are several possibles for Benjamin on the IGI as you may well know, but not in Tingewick. I have checked the BVRI without any luck. I have found the Buckinghamsire Family History Society very helpful and their charges for printouts are also reasonable.
Kind Regards, Frances

Hi,
I do have the 1851 index for Buckinghamshire, there appears to be only one Harris family in Tingewick. (not Benjamin). I know this is out of your time-frame but thought I would mention it.

 :)

Thank you Frances, I know Benjamin does not appear on the IGI for Tingewick, neither did Benedicta their daughter, I searched for her for a very long time, finally obtained her baptism from the Buckinghamshire Parish records, and Benjamin`s marriage, IGI must have ovrlooked their records?!

Could you let me know the details of the Harris family on the 1851 census, it would be interesting to keep, in case they may turn out to be related, who knows!
If I only knew Benjamin`s parents it would at least give some lead, why do our ancestors have to be so awkward!!!

Thanks for your help, Maud

Hi Maud,
Here they are, and I hope you can find your Benjamin! I have found another family also, which I have typed as transcript.
Kind Regards, Frances

 ;D

Thank you Frances for the 1851 info
As some of the family were born in Tingewick, there is a good chance they could be related to Benjamin, so its worth investigating, thanks very much for your help
