Hi has anyone a connection with the Newitts of Long Buckby? Mainly Joseph Newitt b1837 married to Ann Townsend.
Children Elizabeth Hannah b1861 married Harry Townsend 1880
Fred b1867 married Elizabeth Muddiman 1893
Ada Kate Townsend (my gr mother) b1874 married John Halliday 1895

Hi biker chick
Try the Northamptonshire Look Up Exchange as someone is offering look ups for Long Buckby.
I have taken digital pics of the Independent and Baptist Chuch there and a few of the Parish Church as so many of them could not do all at once. ;D
As you say loads of Muddimans etc in all 3 places.

Hi biker chick
On the 1861 Census Rg9/946 Pg 4 Folio 37
The Townsend family is noted yet no Ann present as Townsend .
They do have a boarder Un (unmarried) named Ann Newitt aged 18 Lace Maker.
I think it has been noted down wrongly and it is more than likely their daughter who married your Joseph.
Cheers Sandy
-
I think we may have found Joseph on the 1861.

I am researching the NEWITT family of Long Buckby. Joseph's parents were Alfred & Elizabeth CROSS.
I don't have siblings for Joseph, but I do have forbears.
Do you have info on the descendants of Ada Kate's sibs?
Who were the parents of Ellen Mary (1901)?
-
Ada Kate Townsend Newitt's sibling's were:
Elizabeth Hannah Newitt b1861 married Harry Townsend 7 Nov 1880 Long Buckby.
Fred Newitt b1867 married Elizabeth Muddiman 22 May 1893 Long Buckby.
As you can see there was a lot of intermarriage between the Townsends and the Muddimans at the time!
I have nothing on Ellen Mary as she is not one of mine.
What do you have on Joseph Newitt?
-

Hi kaoota
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
As I am sure both you and biker chick are aware the Newitts and Townsend's were
also Non-Conformists in Long Buckby.
Do they run in your lineages being of the non-conformists lines.
Sandy

I have found the Newtts to be a mix of Cof E , Independent & Baptist pre 1827.
He was Baptised & married C of E (as was William, son to his 1st wife Ann HARRIS) & the children of his 2nd wife Ann RUSSELL were all Christened at the Independent Church LB 20 Sept 1829. His descendants are a bit of everything!
-
Are either of you aware of this forum.
http://genforum.genealogy.com/newitt/messages/1.html
I am related through my ex- daughter in law to the Jacob Newitt (father John of
Long Buckby) who married Martha Linnell.
Cheers Sandy
-
I have 14 John's but no Jacob on my tree. My Newitt's left LB in the 1820's & don't have many of them since then (apart from the direct line) although I can go back to the 1600's
Do you know of anyone who may have some more up to date details? Dare I suggest your ex-daughter- in- law?
-
Hi kaoota
I am afraid that my ex-daughter in law only wanted her direct line too.
Jacob was living in Weedon at time of his marriage.
Sorry can not help further.
Sandy
-
Thanks Sandy ,every little bit helps. To date I have only looked at LB, since they are just so prolific & I didn't know where else to look I'll try Weedon.
-
Hi Biker Chick
I don't knoe if this is of any use to you (and you may already have it), but I have an Adam Newitt living as a lodger with my foster dad's ancestor, George Hanwell in the 1881 census for Long Buckby.
Aged 45, a widower, occ. Shoemaker
Good luck with your research
Mary
-
Mary,
Adam seems to be a very common Newitt name. I have 7, & know of others but cannot slot them in...including the one you have just referred to. I'm sure they must be all the same family.
I do have 2 COOPER brothers (father John, mother Harriett Newitt) who married 2 LETTS George & Sarah 1820 & Alfred & Elizabeth
1864.
Do you have a Mabel OGDEN b1891?
-
Hi Kaoota
No I haven't got a Mabel Ogden, in fact I'm struggling a bit with the Ogdens.
I have a few Letts, 2 Josephs (father & son) & Jesse. I have some Muddiman's as well.

To all Researchers of the NEWITT line in Long Buckby, I have nearly all those names that have cropped up in this forum, would like to make contact with any one willing to share their research.
-
Hi bobslot,
I am always happy to share. What would you like to know? My last NEWITT born in LB was Adam 1789, parents John and Phoebe MALKIN . It IS a large family, and I have managed to trace them out of LB to Crick in the 1500's. I would say that those in surrounding villages are also related.
However I do not have any of those mentioned in this chatroom. I am always looking to add more people to my tree.
-
Hi Kaoota, thanks for your reply, like you I have traced the family back to 1708 in Long Buckby, then the Parish records are missing back to 1689, prior to that to 1554, there is no mention of a Newitt, however I do agree with your findings going back to 1534 when a Richard Newitt and Gillian appear, I have built up all the family units and believe that those that went south of the county could be related , and there is a family whose names appear in the early 1700's in Long Buckby that are also in Crick, I do not have any proof of connection only assumption's, and a big gut feeling that they are related.
My research also has been in trying to find as many as possible of the descendants of these early findings, UK is about 200 pages long and the Tasmania/Australia is over 300 page report. So I would dearly like to make contact with you in order to exchange research. Kind regards Bobslot

I note above that Bob is the fount of all Newitt knowledge, so I am referring this query to Bob.
In transcribing Northampton St. Sepulchre marriage records I came across a Hannah Newitt who
married Thomas Wright on 25 Dec. 1800. I am trying to help a present member of the Wright
family who seems to descend from a Samuel Wright who was born in 1807. His parents were
Thomas and Hannah but I cannot be sure that the Hannah was named Newitt. I do know that
Samuel's mother Hannah died in 1827 aged 53. Does Bob know of a Hannah Newitt of Long Buckby and when she died?

I have no knowledge of the Newitt family. My query about three years back was a request about Hannah Newitt who married Thomas Wright in Northampton in 1800. Are you aware of Hannah Newitt? Is she a member of your Newitt family?
