New members seem to have
"Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk"
included in the personal text of their profile.
I'd like to do the same as it is taking up too much space in my research interests but there isn't room to insert in personal text box.
Is there a way of doing it?

Try this:
1. Click the "Profile" button - next to the large "Search RootsChat" button at the top of each page.
2. In the Modify Profile box midway down the left of the screen click on "RootsChat Profile Information"
3. In the "Research names or areas" box add the text
This information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
4. Click the "Change Profile" button at the bottom right of the screen.

BUT I don't want it in my research names names or areas as it doesn't leave enough room for my research interests.
I'd like to put it in the personal text box so that it appears on left hand side of my post, not the bottom.

Click on Profile (button next to search at top of page)
Click on Rootschat profile Information (2nd entry)
about halfway down the page you will see personal text .... put your entry there
Click on change profile to ensure changes take place.

I tried that but there isn't room for that number of characters. The maximum is what you can see on my posts. :(

Do it the easy way, type the message required, scan it and use the resultant image to display the text as an avatar.

Can you explain in words of one syllable what I should do with it - polite ones of course. ;)

first save the image to your computer (and remember where you put it) then go to your profile options and select "I will upload my own picture" upload the picture there, press "change profile" and whola!! jobs a goodin'
