My gg grandfather Edwin Medhurst Clark was an railway engine driver and then a publican in Dover. He was born approx 1823 in Lewes and on his marriage entry on IGI it says his father was George Clark. Now I know this isn't much to go on and there may be many Clarks in Lewes but any ideas please?

Hi 609jeff
Welcome to Rootschat
Hope your stay with us will help you further your research
Do you have any idea if he married, if so, when?
Do you an idea when he moved to Dover?
Have just looked on the 1851 census transcription and niether father George or son George are listed
Am now going to look through the pages of the 1841 census (no name index, no street index) - so it will be rather time consuming; do you have any further info of where in Lewes

Hi 609jeff
Have been through several of the Lewes 1841 enumerators returns (HO107 1120) and found a couple of 2 George Clarke , but as yet no Edwin Clark(e)
The pages in All Saints Lewes are the worst I have seen on this 1841 census cd - just odd traces of letters, but mainly blank pages - really bad.
Still got St Thomas a Beckett and St Annes to go through though, so keeping fingers crossed
