That looks great.
I wonder if the place she was born was (little london) spalding area.

Is there any info on Cuttoo family in that area.
Her father was John Cuttoo but I do not know if he he was still alive.
The cuttoo name does not appear much anywhere.
Gratefully nutcase

Had a look on ancestry at bmd's and the Cuttoo name also seems to appear as Cutto. When I looked at the censuses for these people, the name seems to have changed to "Cutts", so thats maybe why  they are proving difficult to find.

Couldnt find any Cuttoo/Cutto on the 1851 or 1861 census, although there are a few on the later censuses, so they are probably under Cutts or similar on the early censuses  :-\

Hello from Spalding,
I have copies of directories for Spalding for 1829 up to 1919. In the 1829 one a Wm. Cutto is listed as a Chymist & Druggist, Grocer & Tea Dealer, New Road, Spalding. None of the other directories have anyone with the name of Cutto or Cutts. In the current telephone directory there is only one Cutts at the Post Office, Waplode Drove, Nr Spalding. I have lived in Spalding all my life (66 years) and have never heard of anyone with these names living locally. I live in the Little London area of Spalding.

The person who checked the census has ticked everyone who was born in another county ... it has nothing to do with disability in this instance.

Re 1841 census:  The only CUTTS household in Spalding in 1841 was headed by Abraham ... he was buried as CUTTOO in 1848.

Hi again,
My g g grandfather was buried in Spalding cemetery in 1878. I found the location in a folder at the local library that lists all the burials since it was opened. He and his wife are very close to the entrance so I do not know if the Abraham Cuttoo mentioned by Geoff E would have be buried there. I am not sure what year it was opened. I wonder if he was the one who was a Chemist etc in New Road in 1828/9.

Keith

Thanks to everyone
The only info I have came from the marriage certificate.1841
Father was named John.
The trade is difficult to read.
It looks like carver & guildors.

I did find a Henry Cuttoo living in Spalding at 16 Holbeach Rd in 1881.age 39.
Also a John Cuttoo in 1901 born in Spalding age 39,
 Any ideas where they were?

I guess it's such an unusual name that no one can believe that it's really CUTTOO!

So the problem is guessing how it would be transcribed ... Sutton, Cotton ...

I called in the local library and looked in the record book of burials in Spalding cemetery but there were none of either Cuttoo or Cutts recorded in it.

Hello Nutcase,

My G G Grandmother is also Sarah Ann Simpson.  Did you ever find out anymore about Elizabeth Cuttoo and who her mother is?  Or anything more about her father?

Monte-  welcome to Rootschat. Sadly nutcase has not been on the site since August 2006. It may be more productive for you to make a new post and ask a question about Elizabeth on it.

There was a baptism in Spalding
Elizabeth Catto
06 Jun 1802
Father:   John Catto
Mother:   Ann Catto
the surname is also down as Cataw
