Does anyone know if there is an area or address in Limerick called VIZES FIELDS ?
Thanks :)

Hi
I see from the most excellent From Ireland site by Jane Lyons that Vize's Field is a street name/area in the Dock Ward of LImerick City.
I don't know who Vize was, but I think there are also present day places called Vize's Court etc in this vicinity (I don't know Limerick City myself, but no doubt there are people out there who can give you lots more info!) There might be redevelopment proposals for Vizes Fields too.
The area is mentioned in Angela's Ashes.
Cheers,
Mags

Hi
i'm new to this, so I've just seen your query. Vizes Fields was a housing scheme of cottages between St Joseph St, and Bowman St in Limerick. Vize was the gentleman who owned the leases. My great grandfather, grand parents and great uncle lived there, so I knew it pretty well. Most the people were rehoused from there in the 1960s and most of the houses were demolished. One of it's residents was Patrick Joseph Downey who was one the British Army's shot at dawn during the Great War.
