Title: ELLIOT - Links to VEITCH / TURNBULL / MURRAY
Post by: Jeanette H on Sunday 29 January 06 10:04 GMT (UK)
Hello to All RootsChat Members,

also to Anna this is a follow-up to your Personal Message.

Our 'ELLIOT' connections are as follows (as far as we know):

JEAN ELLIOT - born 1768 Roxburghshire, Scotland. death: 3rd December 1807 (39yrs), Knowsouth, Rox. Sct.
buried: Bedrule Kirkyard, Bedrule Parish, Rox. Sct.

Married: JOHN VEITCH (Spittal Mill) - 26th December 1790, Bedrule Parish.
He was born: 17th June 1759, died: 24th July 1816 (57yrs), also buried in the Bedrule Kirkyard, Bedrule Parish, Rox. Sct.

Their Children were: Jean (1791), James (1792), William (1794), Betty (Elizabeth) (1795), John (1796), Robert (1798), George (1799), Margaret [1] (1801), Mable (1802), Margaret [2] (1804), Elliot (1806), [Female-infant death] (1807).
Jean VEITCH was the only one of their children to marry.

As for the Parents of Jean ELLIOT, I am working on the idea that possibly either WILLIAM ELLIOT (Bedrule) or ROBERT ELLIOT (Southdean) were the father.
The reason for this, is that I found 2 Christening listings on the IGI.
[1].  Jean ELLIOT, ch. 24th April 1768, Bedrule, Rox. Sct. (father - William ELLIOT).
[2].  Jean ELLIOT, ch. 16th Oct. 1768, Southdean, Rox. (father - Robert ELLIOT).

Until I can find out more I do not know if there is a connection to the Castleton area.

If anyone feels that they may have come across anything that may be relevant, I would very much like to hear from you.

Jeanette H.

Hi Jeanette,
These Murrays had a major branch who came to New South Wales Australia.
They are Murrays of Falahill according to DNA results.
\Cheers
