Post by: Luella on Thursday 02 February 06 00:54 GMT (UK)
Hi All,
Anyone researching these families in Ettrickbridge.
Have an obit,
James Scott,b.1823,was b. Ettrickbridge-end.Herded cows in Selkirkshire,at age 8.
In 1837,when he was 13,he set sail with his mother,JaneScott,, and step-father,James Murray.James (Murray)died 13 months after their arrival in Canada.
I believe,James Scott,was the illegitmate,son,of Jane(Jean) Scott.
Any imput would be greatly appreciated.
1841 Census: re Yarrow!!!!
have both Murrays and Scotts, still living Ettrickbridge.
James Scott,married first,a Margaret Anderson,second an Elizabeth Johnstone(in Canada).

I was wondering how your family search was going.  I too have a Scott ancestor from Ettrickbridge-end.   Mine is a William Scott who married a Mary Scott (her parents were John and Helen perhaps from Ashkirk) in 1826 in Yarrow Parish.  Any information about the Scotts of that locale would be very appreciated.  thanks.

For your info Ettrick Kirkyard has been updated by Selkirk Antiquarians and now on CD from this week and loads of Scotts Beatties Laidlaws etc on it . I am in the process of finishing kirkhope cemetery at Ettrick Bridge and will be available about Xmas if things go well and also on CD. Kirkhope has never been transcibed before and again a lot of Scotts etc.on it goig back to 1800s.  Scotts are a minefield when they marry another Scotts.
