Just got in after an extremely hectic day at BBC Learning Centre in Gloucester.
WE had an amazing time, not many people escaped without being told of the delights of Rootschat! ;D
I just wanted to say Thanks, on behalf of everyone who posted questions, to those who took the time to read and answer.
I posted with the info that was available at the time & then the people went away so that we could talk to others. This might mean it will be a while before they reply - depending on their access to the internet. Hopefully they will be joining us & will answer in due course (as I know some already have)
Thanks also to Graceland, Keziahemm and AngelaR for being there - we all worked VERY hard!
Arranroots ;)

Well done. Absolutely brilliant - all of you.
Sounded hectic from the bits on the radio.
Tricia
-
It certainly was hectic - I can talk for England but I've got SUCH a sore throat after talking non-stop for over 6 hours ;D
Where was it on the radio Tricia? I've just seen a really brief clip on the TV news but they managed to miss the RootsChat stand :(
Angela
-
I just tuned in online to Radio Gloucs - they kept advertising it with lots of background noise
Tricia
-
Ah that explains it!
There certainly was background noise - the place was packed solid ::) I think quite a few people are going to be joining RootsChat over the next day or so - a couple of the family history researchers there were very enthusiastic to join us, so that's great.
Look out for lots of new Gloucestershire members!

Hello!
I met the lady being interviewed in the photo - Arranroots, perhaps?? She told me about this great website. I know you probably don't remember me I was there was my mum about 12 ish.... you must've seen hundreds of people that day.
Anyway, this is a very good website. I didn't realise you knew Graceland as well, he DOES get about a bit doesn't he??!
-
Welcome on board BagpussBee
Forgive me if I say it was all a bit of a blur. Were you the one with blue eyes? LOL!!
I do remember some of the names people were researching and there were some very moving stories, including the gentleman in his 80s who was starting his family history after the death of his son.
Graceland was amazing and even surprised himself that he could talk so much!! As for "getting about" - I couldn't possibly comment!!
I see the membership has increased substantially since Friday..
Arranroots ;)
-
Membership up 150+? Wonder how many from Gloucestershire?
I talked to a gentleman who has a photo of a ??xxxgreat aunt wearing "Nelson's" cloak, the story has come down through his family. The brother of the aunt worked for the Admiralty in the early 1800's. It was suggested he got in touch with the Maritime Museum.
Apparently the photo needs a bit of a clean-up so hopefully he will post on here.
Susan :D
-
Oh, well done you ;D Brilliant stuff, all four, even if some were braver than others ;D ;D
Oooh...need to check out the 30,000 chatters post! ;D

Must admit I'm a bit
worried about interested inwhether we're on the local news tonight ::) Surely Saturday is too long ago? On the other hand there hasn't been a proper local news since Friday....
You never know - Graceland may not have escaped ALL the cameras (there were lots there) ;D ;D
Angela :)

I am really annoyed I missed this. I had to wait in for the Gas man and he didn't turn up until Sunday afternoon!
Are there likely to be anymore of this sort of thing. I now this was organised by the BBC but wondered whether any of the local collages were considering offering a day like Saturday. (Gloscat Do IT is part of the BBC centre in Gloucester)

There is a chance of something in April, but watch this space...

I know I live in a bucket ??? (well a house actually...and it's quite a nice one...not always the tidiest, but with two children, two cats and a dog....), but I haven't seen anything for Wales ???...or have I missed all the fun...again. (Don't ever expect me to know the goss...I'm always about 100 years behind...hey THAT'S why I like family history ;D).
-
How impressive this all is - congrats to you all - I do hope it is on again, I am looking forward to a better picture of Graceland ;D ;D
The downside - I think I have lost the 30 000 competition :( :( :(

I have just received an e-mail from Clare, who organised the Family History Day in Gloucester.
She thanks everyone for their hard work and describes the event as enormously sucessful. The 200+ feedback forms praised the friendliness and helpfulness of the "helpers". All in all, they were very pleased with the way things went & would like us to help out next time!
Clare has had a few days off to recover, hence the "late" note of thanks - I am sure she can be forgiven!!
Arranroots ;)
-

Well Done Arranroots, Graceland, Keziahemm and AngelaR
You have done us all very proud ;D It is great to see the pictures.
Since the weekend we have seen a sharp rise in new members and for the first time ever we have had two days with over 100,000 clicks !!!! Pretty sure we are getting a surge from Gloucestershire.
Sarah :)
