Title: Ellen Carr Thomas Kearney
Post by: cainnech on Sunday 12 February 06 16:20 GMT (UK)
I have an Ellen Carr(Kearney)27 married to Thomas Kearney 34
They have a son (stepson) James Carr 8 years.
This is in the 1901 census, but I can't find them before anywhere.
I assume Ellen was a Carr  and unmarried when she had James
Any thought on how to proceed?

Hi Cainnech,

She might hav been single in 1891 but married and widowed between 1891 and 1901 ...

I guess only James' birth cert or her marriage cert to Thomas would tell you.

However, I can see an Ellen Carr in 1891 whose age is just 2 years out:

RG12/4316 10 13
Whitehaven Preston Quarter - 72 Back Row

Isaac McAllister, head, 40, Coal miner
Annie, wife, 27
Thomas, son, 4
Bridget, dau, 2
John, son, 10ms
Ellen Carr, sister in law, single, 19

Everybody born Whitehaven.

Thank you that looks to be good, as the McAllisters are relations.

I believe one of them was mayor of Whitehaven at sometime.

Thanks

I am a relative of the McAllisters of Whitehaven (Joseph and Rose (nee McCourt).
Joseph's brother John was Mayor 1949-50.    Are you somehow related?
