I'm doing some research for an elderly friend ( as if my own wasn't taking over my life... ;D ) and have hit a puzzle.
I'm looking for the following little family who, according to the births of the children, should definitely be in Redmarley in 1891. Problem is that, looking on Ancestry, I can find all sorts of towns in the district of Redmarley, (eg Dymock), but not Redmarley itself. Is it missing from the 1891?
In case anyone has any ideas, the people I'm looking for are -
Henry John Powell b abt 1865 Gloucester
Harriet Powell b abt 1869 Kempley, Glos
Frederick Powell b abt 1887 Redmarley
Ethel Powell b abt 1889 Redmarley
possibly Henry John b abt 1891 Redmarley
They aren't in the on-line transcription of some of Redmarley in Genuki
All help gratefully received :)

Hi Angela R
There is a Redmarley D'abitot in Gloucestershire in the 1800s
could this be the place you are asking about
-
Hi ricky1
Yes, that's the right place. It wanders over the county boundary with Worcestershire but the census information is there for all years apparently except 1891 ??? ??? ???
It still exists and is currently in gloucestershire

Hi Angela :D
1891 census Redmarley
It appears to be Reg District Newent, Sub District Redmarley, Enumeration District 3.
kind regards, Arranroots ;)

I can't see them!
RG12/2009/27 pages 1 - 22 in theory

Hi Arranroots :)
I'm glad it isn't just me - I was beginning to wonder .......

Haven't looked for them in 1901 are they still around?
Back after lunch!
;)

Lunch - now there's an idea ;D
The family's there all right in 1901 and they're there (pre marriage) in 1881.
Driving me nuts it is.....
I'll go and get some food too - might help!

Angela R, I also have this family in my husbands family tree and i cannot find them in1891 either or her parents William & Ellen or Harriett's sister Elizabeth & family.
-
They are living at Birchless, Ashleworth Lane, Staunton, Newent, Gloucester on the 1891 Census.
Henry John, Harriet, Fredrick C & Ethel H but no mention of Henry John.
-
Thank you Ellen, i could not find this family anywhere in 1891 but have now found them via a Google search and your reply regarding the Powell,s

Well found:
RG12 Piece 2009 Folio 121 Page 4
but can only find them on findmypast, ancestry must have them indexed 'differently'.
possibly Henry John b abt 1891 Redmarley
POWELL, HENRY JOHN MMN MANNS
GRO Reference: 1891 S Quarter in NEWENT Volume 06A Page 265
so born after 1891 census.
-
I have just been on Ancestry to try and find the Powells with no luck either, how strange ??? There was no problem on FindMyPast.
Josey well done to you too, no wonder we couldn't find Henry John junior in 1861 :-\

I tried looking on ancestry for other people on the page, with no success. If you browse Worcestershire in the 1891 on ancestry there is no parish entry for Staunton so it seems they are missing some pages. Freecen.org.uk is not complete for the county.
