Hello could someone look up 1861 census Middlesex Lobo
George Padget with Margret and William They are on their way from England to Iowa. I am trying to find out where they are from in England and or if William is Georges son. Thanks

Hello John
Could you provide a few more details about this family?
You mention Onterio? and yet also Middlesex.
Is this a British census query or not?
I have however looked up the Padget surname in the UK census of 1861 and find that nearly all of them are in Yorkshire.
Without knowing when these people were born,or what jobs they did,it's going to be hard to know if it is the correct family.
Regards,
Carol

sorry about lake of information, i will try to do better
William Padget left England to Canada around 1850S I think I have him located in Yorkshire but my information has his father as Henry Padget but in Yorkshire he is living with a George and Margret Padget. I think this is the right Family because he had a sister named Mary which shows up in Yorkshire and in Iowa where ended up. I understand that they show up in the Ontario Census of 1861 in Middlesex (county?) and Lobo ( Township?) with George as head of household. William would be in his teens at this point depending on which age I use. I would like to find out if possible his relationship to George if that information is listed. George I believe is a Farmer and William is a Farmer in Iowa.

Hello John,
I think you need to get a moderator to move this to the Canada boards?
I realise now you are talking about Ontario, Canada. ;D
Have you tried posting a request on the Yorkshire board for an 1841 look up,where you might get him living with his parents ?
All the best,
Carol

Hi John,
There is a free-access transcription of what looks like your family's census entry here:
http://www.ogs.on.ca/ogspi/6nq/c186p001.htm#padget
but unfortunately they seem to have transcribed only the names, not ages or relationships, so it is not much help.
Once the moderators move this over to the Canada boards I think you'll get a lot more responses - hopefully we can track down some more details for you.

Hi John,
Do you think any of them stayed in Ontario, or they all went off to Iowa?
I did find a William Padget who was born in Yorkshire, England and died in Markham Township, County of York in 1897. He was 71 years old and a farmer.

Have also found a William in the 1871...Farmer in York East from England born 1826...This would be the same fallow as above...
No George...This is heads of households listed, only...

No sign of this family in the 1881...

The William Padget who was born in Yorkshire may have been a Brother of George the age is about right and George has a William with him that may have been his or a Henry Padgets ( according to the family information I have William Padget born about 1845 father was Henry Padget) It seems that William was living with George and Margaret Padget from at least 1851 to when they came to Iowa. By then William had married in Michigan and after stopping in northern Iowa settled in Waterloo Iowa. George and Margaret settled in the same county or very near it and I can find no reference that they are related. Which of course does not mean they are not but you would think someone would metion it. Thank you both for the help if you have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them

Just thought I would give my 2 cents worth on this discussion............ but check out these websites, to see if you can find them.
Directories - Click on the go button and look for the year you are requiring. I know it says for Toronto, but there are other areas it covers for the year 1861 and should not be over looked.

Also check for directories:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/canadiandirectories/index-e.html
Also check Canadian Online, perhaps they are listed in a book/microfiche film.

Never know what you might find! :)
Good luck, Adeline

Hi John
1861 doesn't give the 'relationship to head of house' but according to the 1851 enumerator instructions (they are basically the same layout) a household included anyone that 'had a bed' in that home and were to be listed in the following order; Head, Wife, unmarried children in order of age, married children and families, other family, lodgers and their families, servants, other members of household.
http://www.canada.uottawa.ca/ccri/resources.html
bottom of page - 1951 Enumerator Instructions - Original - page 13
Here is your Padget family in 1861
Film C-1050, 1861, Canada, Ontario, Middlesex, Lobo, Division 1, page 39
Info listed as follows:
Name, Occupation, Place of Birth, Religion, Age
George Padget Labourer England EC 45
Margaret Padget do do 34
Henry Padget do do do 19
William Padget do do do 17
Mary Padget do do 12
John Padget do do do 8
George Padget Labourer-u Canada do 5
According to the ages of the last two children and place born that would put their immigration between abt 1853 and 1856
Hope this helps unravel your mystery :)
~Denise
LOL, info wouldn't line up ::)

Well done, Denise!...and now that we know there is no sign of George on the 1871 or beyond...one can assume he emigrated before that census...
This family doesn't show up for me in the 1880 U.S....none say born England & Young George must not state that he was born in Canada, either?
