Title: Hessie

There is a legend in my wife's family, that the first-born daughter always has the name Hessie.  I can trace back 4 generations, but there the trail stops.
Does anybody here know any Hessie, or have any good tips on how to do a first-name search ??
I live in Germany so I am limited to online databases.

At http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl you can search on first names if they are unusual. I tried it and it works :) The problem is it is incomplete and starts in 1837 which may not be far enough back for you.

You could also check our the Family Search site, there are 20 in the 1881 census

Thanks also to Ely-lite.   At the the moment I have my daughter, her mother, her grandmother, her greatgreataunt (she had no children, so the name was passed on through another daughter) and her greatgrandmother. I tried "freeBMD" and I think I located one of "our" Hessies, the greatgreataunt.  

I'm now trying to confirm this. Once again, thaks !

It is worth re-visiting the FreeBMD site from time to time as it is an on-going project and new records are regularly added. :D

Thanks, Karen.  I will do that.  At the moment I have reached a dead end. I got excited when I did find a Hessie Stevenson and some Emily Stevensons (her sister), but the age ranges are wrong. So I will leave it a few months and look for other family members and then try again...   and again...  and again...
