I have been told that one of my great uncles was employed at the works during the constrution of the Lake Vyrnwy Reservoir Dam project. It would probably have been Alfred Dudley son of Richard Dudley Headmaster of Llanyblodwel School or one of his sons. Can anyone give me any clues if this true or where he was working at the later end of the century. Many thanks.

Have you found Alfred on any of the census returns?
-
Not since 1871 census.

When and where was Alfred born?
Where was he in the 1871 census?
Did he marry, and if so to whom?

I have no record of him being married. Other imfo, He was born at New Bold on Avon, Warwickshire in 1854. In 1871 census he was at his parents, Richard and Ann Dudley, School House, Eardington, Bridgenorth and working as a Auctioneers Clerk. In 1881 Census he was again staying with his parents, in School House, Llanyblodwel,Montgomeryshire and working as a Collery Clerk. You have probably guessed by now his parents were School Teachers.

You are very welcome Eric - glad to help :D
I wish I could find Alfred in 1891 and 1901. I have done several different search methods in case he's been mistranscribed somewhere.
I will keep looking................. ;)

P.S. I don't suppose you have got any extra information that might help me find him.

I have little to go on as far as info. on Alfred Dudley. One small clue maybe , My grand father Francis John Davies married his sister Sarah Anncutt Dudley on December 29th 1885 at Llanyblodwel, the witnesses were his younger brother George Richard Dudley and the bride grooms sister Martha Selina Davies. This maybe the the only clue, they were both teachers and the brides parents were teachers, which would have created a lot of local interest in the local press. This maybe the line to go on, to see if Alfred was still around. Many thanks for your help, you really have put in a lot of effort.
