I have tracked my Mcgarry family to Roscommon and not sure
where to go from here.
They arrived on the mainland (manchester) prior to
1851 (1st census I can locate them on). Their children
were in their 20's so they probably married 1820-1830.
Apart from names and ages, and all the males were bricklayers -
I'm not sure how to track them in Ireland as I don't know which parish to
start in. They were Catholic.
How do I locate the parish records? C.D rom ? If so, could anyone
tell me if the McGarry name is specific to an area ?
I would love to take a trip over to Ireland but again - where
should I start ?
Many thanks for reading.

Hi Ticker,
I've looked at a few of the sites you suggested but found nothing.
I know Irish records aren't the best to track especially when I don't know exactly where my ancestors came from.
I'll go though ALL of them and will re-post a plea if I'm still hitting walls.
Many thanks for your reply.
Kind regards - Debbie

Hi Audrey
Thanks so much for your kind offer....
Here's the start of what I have...
Rodger McGarry Born abt 1801 Co. Roscommon
Winifred McGarry (Wife) b abt 1800 co Roscommon
their children as per 1851 census:
Bartholomew Mcgarry b abt 1823 (Bricklayer in 1851)
Ann McGarry b abt 1825 (Remained spinster)
Peter Mcgarry b abt 1827 (bricklayer)
(Married Mary Ann Daley RC church Ashton-under-lyne 1849)
Catherine Mcgarry b abt 1829 (Remained spinster)
Winifred McGarry b abt 1831
(ALL CHILDREN BORN CO.ROSCOMMON)
On the I.G.I there is a marriage in Boyle 8th Sept 1820
Rogerium Mcgarry to Winifredam McWren ???
I have also possibly located them in Ashton on 1841 census
but the page is very faded.. Rodger is listed as RAGNVALD GARRY !
His wife and children are all there (except Catherine) plus there
is a William Garry (?) born Ireland abt 1828
and a BURNEST MCGARRY (??) b 1832 Lancashire
PLUS there is a HENRY GARRY b Lancashire 1821...
As the page is so bad a lot of the above information is probably
not correct.
If this is the same family - they must've come to the mainland around
1830's ?
I would like to see if I can track any siblings/parents and whether any of Rodgers brothers/sisters came to the mainland as there was another Mcgarry family living next door to Peter Mcgarry in 1851 but the HEAD had died so I don't have his name and don't know the maiden name of his widow !
I hope I haven't confused you or thrown too much at you - I really appreciate
you even looking at this for me.
Many thanks - kindest regards - Debbie

I've been researching the Colemans in Boyle and they are connected with the McGarrys. There were a lot of McGarrys around Boyle in the 1800s, particularly in the townland of Garrow. You'll get a sense of that if you look at the 1901 Census on www.leitrim-roscommon.com
You may find some of the people you're looking for on www.familysearch.org as most of the Boyle parish records (Catholic) have been transcribed there.
I do know that a Roger McGarry married a Brigid Coleman in Boyle on 24th April 1839.
Hope this is of some help.

Many Thanks Urs,
After taking several months "off" family history - I'm back on the trail so apologies for my late reply.
Its really the 1820's and earlier I'm looking for the family. I just wanted to see if I could track a sibling or two for Roger (born around 1799/1800) in Roscommon.
I'm also struggling with burials for them in the Stalybridge/Dukinfield/Ashton-Under-Lyne area for 1860's to present day. I have only located one so far and that was Roger's son - Peter McGarry buried at Dukinfield in 1899.
Thanks for your help - Debbie

When searching LDS Roscommon records for McGarry you need to search for both McGarry and Mc Garry. Same applies to all Mc... names,
