Hello Alison, and welcome to Rootschat!

The people here are very friendly and always happy to help a newcomer.

The first place you will want to check is the Victorian govt. Births, Deaths and Marriages indexes.  They are available online at: http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/servlet/bdm_home
I'm not sure how recently you can search (i.e. up to what date) but I know it is pay-per-search.  The best bit is that for historical records, once you find the index reference you are able to download the actual image of the record (for another fee).  The prices are not exorbitant, compared to NSW anyway!

Any more questions, just ask.
 :)
Cheers
Prue

Hi Alison,
As Prue says,  you will probably find your grandfather's birth and marriage to Phyllis on the site she has suggested.
However his death may be too recent to be listed there, but I think he is at Springvale cemetery which you probably know already.

http://www.ozgenonline.com/aust_cemeteries/vic/index.htm

Explore this spot for a ww2 service.  You can order a full service record and it will tell you some family details if you have no success getting them in other ways.

http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/

On the one below you might find a copy of the same or additional info. of family.
Keep us posted!!

Hi Alison,
just that I saw a Charles Boxall interrred at Springvale 5/2/1932. Could he possibly be Phyllis Eunice's father? Only a Death Certifcate could confirm that if such a registration could be found.

Ally

My suggestion would be to check the papers for death notices in "The Sun" around the time of your grandfathers death.  It may lead to name and possible married name of your dad's sister.

Walter Henry's death certificate will more than likely list their names.

The newspapers are on microfilm and available at the State Library of Victoria.

The electoral rolls are also available at the State Library and from 1992 to current are indexed alphabetically, prior to that you would need to know the area the family lived.

If you are unable to access the State Library, let me know and next time I go up, i'll check them for you.

Best of Luck

Genni

Hi Allison

I went to the State Library today, and found the following.

Phyllis KARGAS nee BOXALL died 1976 aged 63 Ararat. Reg no: 13809
Place of Residence: 110 Moore Street, Ararat (from electoral rolls)

Walter Henry WERNER's death notice made no mention of any children.
Only mentioned his brother Carlton sisters Irene, Sylvia & Myrtle and brother in Law Ted.

Both Phyllis Kargas & Walter Henry's estates went through Probate.
You can access their records at the PROV in North Melbourne, Which is open every 2nd Saturday in the Month.  You need to request them online so that you can have access on Saturdays.  It might be worth the 2 hour trip to the City.

Ref: Walter Henry - Probate Ref: 970219 28/P 10/000059
