Hello,
Is anyone looking into this family?
Our main interest is the part of the family headed by James Evans born circa 1813. But we are interested in the family in general.
:)We look forward to hearing from you,
Berry

The village of Cilggerran (sometime Kilgerran in early records) has a village website:
http://www.cilgerran.info/index.htm
As well as current info it has a history section, pictures etc
-
We also have information on Griffith REES born in Cilgerran circa 1837.

Hello,
Does your Griffith Rees have a daughter named Catherine? "My" Catherine married Evan Elias who was born in Cilgerran, Pembrokeshire. They had children Cecelia, David, Lydia and Maria. Marriage certificate shows Catherine's father as Griffith Rees. I have notes that show his wife possibly as Margaret Richards and Griffith's parents possibly as William and Elenor who had children, Griffith, Rees and David. Does any of this match the info you have on Griffith??

P.S.
The Evan Elias I noted above married Ann Evans c. 1832 daughter of Evan Evans c. 1792 and wife Mariah cd. 1791. I show he was born in Llandwrog, Cardiganshire, Wales and she in Bridell / St. Dogmells, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
Any connections with your data??

Could be......... - this may take a bit to unravel.
Griffith REES is down on one of our 1851 census returns for the EVANS family in Cilgerran (63 High Street) - we think he may be a nephew.
He is listed as 13 and a pupil teacher - so born circa 1837.
With your notes it become interesting as:
Cilgerran Feb 18 1834
James Evans and Sophia Evans of St Dogmaels.
The above are the head of household and wife for our 1851 census return. I am now wondering if your Ann Evans is the sister (or some relation) of our Sophia Evans.....
We are told that Evans can be a toughie to track - but we mainly wondered if someone was missing a Griffith REES somewhere!
Do you have dates for your Griffith? Could yours be this Griffith from the 1851 Cilgerran census?
Let me know what you think - perhaps we can unravel somehthing!

Hi,
I have been showing my possible Griffith as being born in 1831 in Llanarthney, Carmarthenshire, Wales with quite younger sibilings David 1854 and Rees 1858. I show his father possibly as William c. 1809 in Llanarthney, Carmarthenshire, Wales. I show a wife for William as Elenor born 1825 so she may have been mother of Griffiths half sibings but not him.

Yes, my cousin and I are trying to learn more about the Evans family in Cilgerran. Our ancestor was John Evans, b. abt 1791 in Cilgerran. We think his wife was Maria. They had one child that we know of, named William Evans, b. 1825 in Cilgerran. He married Margaret Griffiths, daughter of Moses and Martha Griffiths, and they had a daughter named Martha, born 1855 in Cilgerran. She is my great-grandmother. She then married Titus Griffiths, in 1847.
Does anyone have more information on this branch of the Evans family?

Hello Shenvalfan,
Our relative is James EVANS - born in Cilgerran c 1813. We have a note that he may have a brother John.
We do not know who James' parents were. James married a Sophia EVANS - of Llangoedmor, near Cardigan - on 18 Feb 1834 at Clgerran.
They lived on the High Street in Cilgerran. James EVANS was a slater. They posshad 7 children (certainly 6) including a son William EVANS born in 1843.
A poss relative with Griffith in their name is mentioned in the Evans census entry for 1851.
V best wishes.

Thanks. I've checked, and there does not seem to be a match. I will be coming to Wales next month and hope to find out more in the county records office. Thanks for your help.

Shenvalfan,
Don't know whether I can be any help to you but I am the g-g-g-g grandson of Moses and Martha Griffiths. I know bits and pieces about them and their descendents.

Hi,
Just got your message. We must be cousins of some sort then. Did your ancestors come from the Moses Griffiths "Jr." line or the Margaret Griffiths line? Those are the two children of Moses and Martha Morgan Griffiths that I know; there may have been other children.
My U.S. cousin (I'm in the US also) and I descend from Margaret Griffiths (b. 1826), who married William Evans of Cilgerran. Our mothers were cousins, and their grandparents were Martha Evans Griffiths and Titus Griffiths, of Cilgerran.
Recently we have "met" online three other Griffiths cousins, all of whom descend through the Moses Jr. (b. 1828) line. Two are in Wales, the other in England.
Tell me more.

Hello Shenvalfan & rockdodger,
I know this is an old thread but I recently discovered that I too am a descendant of Moses and Martha Griffiths. Their son Samuel would be my 3rd great grandfather. I was wondering if you have any information at all about them? Thank you very much.

Hi,
I'm interested in James Evans from Cilgerran.
My James Evans was born in 1870 in Llandisilio. He became a teacher and an organist. Married a lady called Mary. As far as I know, they had no children. He had a sister called Barbara.
