Hello
My family history reseach, centred around the Blackburn area, has stalled around 1750. My understanding is this site is restricted to 1837 onwards when formal registration commenced and from 1841 for census entries. Or, can I post messages on this site in the hope I might find someone with a common interest?
Grateful for a steer

Hi Gerry,
No I don't think we restrict ourselves only to 1837 onwards. Lots of questions here about burial, marriages and baptisms look-ups. Also questions about old handwriting (and I do mean old), what was meant by Latin phrases and things found in wills, to name just a few. Many of us have access to various indexes or our own private holdings of transcriptions, so ask away. Was there anything in particular you need help with?

Hi there Gerry
It may seem that we are dealing with more 1837 and onward and 1841 and onward census queries, because that is the bulk of the questions that we get.
Quite a few of us have archives for various parts of the country or county in which we live that go back to the start of parish registers in the 1560 and a number of people do look ups for members when they visit their local record office.
I personally do not have one single ancestor in Sussex, but as you can see from the 'sticky posts' at the start of the sussex boards, I do have a lot of archives for this county because I love Local & Family History and want to know more about where I live.
Please ask your pre 1867 questions - and if we can help you, we will

Hi Nell & Chris in 1066 Land
Thanks for your encouragement. I will put something together from the detail held. Do I post this on the 'Beginners' site or is there a preffered alternative?
Regards
Gerry

Hi Gerry
First thing to decide is 'What county am I asking for help in'
Then use the appropriate section in that county.
If its a general question - use the common room
Etc, etc,
Please be advised if you put it in the wrong board - soneone like KAZZA will move it to the appropriate board where it should / will get more responses
So, just go ahead and post, one of the moderators will sort it out for you
