Hi I'm looking for any descendants of Catherine Fairweather Robertson or Fowler who married William Doig Duncan on 27/12/48 in Dundee in Scotland and emigrated to Australia afterwards, probably about 1951. Catherin's son from her first marriage, James Fowler was probably called James Duncan by the time he emigrated with Catherine and William. It is actually descendants of James that I'm interested in but all information will be welcomed. Unfortunately I have no idea where in Australia they went.

Dear PatJohn
More information is definitely required. But in a search of the National Archives of Australia, there were 21 hits of 'James' and 'Duncan'.
http://www.naa.gov.au/
click on 'records search' left hand side
click on 'search now as a guest', and enter your keywords and/or dates.
And if you are searching for descendants in Australia, I suggest you put your tree 'on-line' say www.GenesReunited.com, with what information you have to hand, and you may be contacted by living individuals researching the same branches you are. Every 14 days you will receive 'hot matches' with your tree. It costs me under $20 aussie dollars per annum.
This is also a brilliant link to a website, with links to many other sites, if you want to learn more about Australian research in general.

Good luck in your hunt.

This is great. The deaths of William Doig Duncan and Catherine add to my family search. Now I just need to find Catherine's son Robert originally Fowler but may have been changed to Duncan when Catherine and William married in Scotland. Robert is my cousin, the only one I had/have on my mother's side. At least Victoria is a start although I realise that he could well not be there now.

-
just checked not buried at Fawkner - Coburg

You may need Catherine Death certificate which you can order on line at

you need rego number 15661 year 1976
at least that should say if son is alive - and with date of date of death and a address where living
-
Whoops sorry got mixed up it is definitely James I am looking for. Robert was his natural father. Name Robert Phillip Fowler, born in Scotland circa 1911, probably in Dundee - married Catherine Robertson in Dundee 21/12/1936 and died also in Dundee 28/12/1941.
Thanks
Patjohn

hi there
do you have an approximate birth date for James, i am guessing it will be between 36 and 41
regards jenn
-
Yes around 1937 as he was about the same age as my sister. I can't be more accurate than that at the moment, until I get back to Edinburgh and search at the Records Office

Just got Catherine's death certificate - death date is 30th June 1976. It also gives an address for James in East Keillor in 1976. . I will write to this address but of course he could well have moved since then. Do you know of a newspaper in which I could advertise to try to find James

Just realised from the notification of Catherine's death that James is still going by his own name - Fowler. so he is James Fowler, not James Duncan
