Hi,
Can anyone tell me if this chap was in the Navy, Merchant Navy or any other info? On the reverse it says he is outside the British Centre in Sydney. 1945
Thanks

Hi Cammy,
Can you get a close up of the badges on his cap and right arm?
As high a resolution as you can.
First impression is Royal Navy, but just to be on the safe side.

Hi,
Is this any better, it's the best I can get on the scanner I have.
-
just an observation as i know precious little about the navy, but is that a red cross badge on his arm? (got to be RN hasn't he?)
-
I did suspect this, but had to make sure first.
Definitely a Petty Officer Sick Berth Attendant, Royal Navy. Post War.

i was thinking petty officer ( honest :D) and my reference was some the 'Cruel sea' type films (in fact i think it was 'in which we serve'..)

Harrihobs,
I believe you.
I have been caught out myself a couple of times by you experts on Army cap badges. >:(
So I just wanted to make absolutely sure. ::)

Cammy,
Always happy to be of some help, however small.
Harrihobs,
Basically, the white top to the cap, the jaunty angle of it and the relaxed atmosphere of the picture.
Very glad I got it right. For a change ::)

Hiya,
Thanks guys for your input to this post. This fellow was my Dad's brother, my Dad passed away recently and I would not have found out any info about this picture without your help.
