Title: The last of the originals for clean and colour please
Post by: CarolBurns on Saturday 01 April 06 11:30 BST (UK)
This is definitely one of my favourite photos as we think it is hubby's grandad and four of his brothers and his mother. Grandad was born in 1876 and is the eldest in the group and he looks to be about 10 or so so this photo would have been taken about 1886 or so.

When I first posted this picture it wasn't a scan of the original but a bad scan of a bad scan and you couldn't see the two boys at either side. We thought there was only 3 boys and a mother and a dog but you can just see the boy at the far left and the boy at the far right.

I would be so grateful if someone could do something with this one. I haven't done anything to it

Thanks in advance

Carol

If someone can clean it up, I'd be happy to colour it for you  :).

Hi

Here is my cleanup - what with "photo restorers shoulder ache" - I can't spend as much time on it as I would wish - anyone wants to carrying on with it please do so.

Cheers

Keith

Great clean up Keith - now for a colour up

You can actually see the two boys on each side a lot better

Very good Rachael

I'm trying to figure out exactly what that is behind the mother and not sure whether it is a tent or coat hungon spade

Thanks to you all for your work. They are all fantastic.

I now have plenty of choices for my Family Photo album and Family Photo Wall - guests love to look at all my old photos and it's a good starting point for getting them interested in Family History

Thanks JJ

That poor dog looks like it is being strangled and is trying to get away  - maybe why it is so blurred

The pup was doing it's head shake thing and the boy was
trying to keep it still...Notice the thumb I found on the boy's
right hand, over the right eye. Actually I think that's a collar
or something at the neck of the dog as all the fingers seem
accounted for on either side.  I think that's dust flying all
about him as he's just had a run in the dusty field around him.
I wondered if they were living in tents while they built their home...
all the best, J.J.

I know they were farm workers so they either decided it was easier to sleep outside when it was warm or you are right and they lived in tents until the house was ready. It looks like they are in the harvest period so that could be the reason

By the way, did anyone notice the "dog within a dog" image happening on
the photo? I don't think that the optical illusion guys could have done it better...
In case you don't see it...it's the head of a dog and...the tongue is in a rather
delicate area....
naughty me...but nature painted this, not I....J.J.

Yeah, sorry about that..'cuz I saw it while I worked on the photo and I
had to go and check everyone else's to make sure it wasn't my imagination...
But now it's so stuck in my brain, I see it right away. But it is rather cool
despite it's location...so I thought I should share... J.J.

hubby only saw the dog and couldn't understand why I was giggling like a complete lunatic!

Maybe it is just our imaginations are a bit more "creative" and wierd lol

Did you notice that the one little guy with a most atrociously severe look in his
eyes has a sprained or broken finger? I forgave the look when I saw that.
Likely feeling really sorry for himself..I remember those years... ;)  (sort of) J.J.

I have never noticed that before

Poor little soul
