Is anyone else having a problem with the 1881 on Ancestry ?
Im finding that you can search by name, but when you put anything else in eg parish, birthyear etc it just wont work properly

Working fine for me, Joe
Tricia

Thanks for replying Tricia.
It still wont work for me and ive tried every thing.
I will just have to use the LDS.

I'm having problems too. It's only when you use the exact search and then try and put extra information, eg if you put "John" born in "Cheshire" it doesn't bring any results. And I'm sure that there were some John's born in Cheshire on the 1881 census!

Hi
I had the same problem last night. It just would not accept any other information to search on other than name. All the other censuses were working fine.

Hi guys
Thanks for posting this - I thought my PC was on the blink!
When I got nothing, I tried to redefine & it was putting male or female in the county of birth box :o
Then my copy of NBI wouldn't load either & I was beginning to feel got at.
Need a soothing cup of herbal tea :D

Don't understand this. I never use exact search so have just been playing with it and it gives me results whatever I search on.
Tricia ???
-
Thank goodness its not only me, Tricia, what have you got that we havent ;D
Bekasgran, Welcome back to little Bekah .
Joe

Hi Joe
It seems to be working for me. Is it sorted now or are you still having the same problem?
Best wishes

Apparently there were no Johns born in London (or Reading or Chester)...

???
Maybe its a statistical anomaly! ;D ;D ;D
-
Hate to say this but John, Cheshire works. Over 40,000 of them
John, Reading produces 1,378
John London produces about 23,000
Tricia
-
Well,it seems to be better this morning but there are still No Johns born in Chester ???
Joe
-
Or Reading...... ???
-
Or London..........How weird is that ???
Joe
-
It seems that any name beginning with J is the problem in those three places at least.
Joe
-
What's the matter with you lot :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
John Chester produces 3,491 references
Tricia - ducking the blows

Ha, ha - 'fraid it does.
Thank goodness for Ticker - now you know I'm not telling porkies
Tricia ;)
-
Well I'm not getting any results either!! It's only a problem when using the exact search for 1881, all the others are OK. Tried Thomas birthplace Cheshire as well, but no results so it's not just "J".
I emailed ancestry yesterday with the problem.

Did mine on exact search so how can it be Ancestry's fault ??? ???
Are you both using the same Interner service provider. There was a problem with Ancestry & servers a few weeks ago
Tricia
-
Thank goodness for Ticker
Its not often you see that phrase! ;D ;D
-
Hurrrrrrraaaaaahhh.....Now wheres Arranroots, probably off Global Moderating somewhere or sleeping....Idont think she has had any kip since being elevated..

Mine is NTL
Joe

Hi Tricia et al,
I'm not saying it's ancestry's fault, but they may be able to help with a solution. If it's a setting somewhere in my browser I need to know what to change and haven't got a clue at the moment!! Still strange that it works for the other census's on exact search though. Using a BT Broadband connection with Internet Explorer 6.

Noticed they have been playing around with 1881 recently and changed a few things
They've added ' View original record' with a new logo which doen't seem to appear on other census
Tricia
-
Well mine isn't working still so there!
I also noticed a very weird problem with Carmarthenshire records 1881 the other day, they seem to have taken all the relationships fields away?!? Haven't looked at that one since.
Ah the Welsh 1881 has the same glitch as England!
Just get this sorted before I get back, would you??
;D ;D
(p.s. Hurrah for Ticker - that's to keep you going til I get back!!)
-
;D ;D ;D
Have those of you who are having problems tried deleting your cookies in case it is being caused by some retained settings in your browser?
Click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Delete Cookies"
Worth a try perhaps! ;)

Bon voyage, Arranroots. Have a great time - love to Tanja
Wish I was going as well. Could have a mini Rootschat meet ;D
Tricia

I noticed the new logo thingy the other day and Ithought the reason it wasnt working properly due to being upgraded........but its not that ..is it
Joe
-
Oh Ticker the wonderful - I love cookies, but having deleted them - it works again!!
Thanks - should have thought of that!
Tricia - not to late to skip over to Gay Paree...
;)
-
Oh Ticker the wonderful
You're too kind! ;D
-
Joe and Jean
Has the cookies thing solved your problem too?
Ticker
-
Thought you were leaving early!
Ticker - what a great man! I'd forgotten that I used to lose things occaionally on Ancestry and since then have deleted cookies regularly.
(Money in a brown envelope will suffice for all this adulation, Ticker)
Tricia
-
Well Ive done the cookie thing and it still wont work for me :'( :'(
Joe

Ticker
-
Fine - I'll send you my address to post the cash
Ha. ha - no more accolades for you, then!
Tricia
-

Joe
The only other thing I can think of is to delete all your temporary internet files in case it is something in there causing the problem.
Click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Delete Files", tick the "Delete all offline content" box and then click "OK"
This is a bit more risky than deleting your cookies, but shouldn't cause any problems we can't sort out between us!
Ticker
-
Ignore last post - our posts crossed!
-
Dear All,
Sorted now! ;D It was the Temporary Internet Files that resolved it for me, not the cookies. I deleted Cookies first and still had the problem, then deleted temporary internet files and it now works!
Thanks all for the help,
Jean
