Refreshing this request from 2006.
I am looking for the parents and siblings of Elizabeth Mary Hunt. I believe her father could be James Wests Hunt but have no proof and no idea where the name came from.
From F.S;
Marriage Banns-Name: John Edward Atwood ( Also spelt Attwood)
Event Date: 6 Feb 1831
Event Place: Canterbury, Kent, England, United Kingdom
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth Hunt
This couple married 1 March 1831 St Mary's Norton.
I have them with children in 1841 HO107 486-20 folio 40 page 39: John 8, Ellen 7, Charles 5, George 4 and Edward 2.
The next census I have is 1861 which shows Elizabeth 55 b, Dover, with Sons George 25 and Robert 18.
1861Census RG9/53 folio 112 page 10
86 York St, St Margaret's Westminster, Middlesex (London)
John E ATTWOOD head grocer 51 b. Kent
Elizabeth wife 55 b.Dover Kent
Sometime between 1861 census and 1885, they arrived in New Zealand as John E dies in Sept 1885
In Loving Memory of John E Attwood, Died Sep 15 1885. His Wife Elizabeth, Died Oct 23 1873, Aged 71.
Elizabeth's age moves a bit as in 1861 she is 55 so born abt 1806 but at her death, she is 71 so abt 1802.
Any help is much appreciated

There is a Mary Hunt baptised 13 August 1802 Dover St Marys parish. Record available on findmypast and transcribed the same on Kent parish CD. Parents James and Sarah. You can view the parish record if you have access to findmypast. I will have a look for possible parents marriage and siblings for you.

Unfortunately there are also
Charles the son of Charles & Elizabeth 10 July 1805 and
Frances daughter of John & Sarah, 12 Dec 1803
I fancied the Charles & Elizabeth couple just because of the name, and your Elizabeth has a son Charles. But I don't see any other children to that couple

Hi Carol.
Is there no info on Elizabeths NZ Death Cert?
Trish :)
-
Many Thanks to all who have helped with this inquiry.
Trish, I do not have the death certificate as it would not give me much information. I always buy a printout which is cheaper and sometimes has more information. ($25NZD)
From NZBMD here is what I would get;
Prior to 1875 – Registration Ordinance (Dated 15 October 1847)
Local number
When and where died
Name and surname
Sex
Age
Rank or profession
Cause of death
Signature, description and residence of informant
Date registered
Signature of deputy registrar
Here is the complete transcription of the head stone;
Southland Cemetery Record Edward Attwood Oct 24th 1911 aged 73yrs Plot 42-44 Elizabeth Attwood Oct 23rd 1873 aged 71yrs Plot 42-44 Louisa Attwood wife of Edward July 14th 1901 65yrs Plot 42-44 Louisa Attwood July 7th 1911 aged 41yrs Fortrose Plot 42-44
Charles married in 1863 Dunedin NZ, so will look for them arriving prior to 1863.
I still can not find the 1851 Census for this family.
I also found a Mary b 1802 but no Elizabeth.
My only source is F.S. as I no longer subscribe to Findmypast or Ancestry

Is it a first marriage for Elizabeth.......age ~ 28y...... at 1830?

A tree on Ancestry says Charles came on the Derwentwater in Nov 1861.
Online passenger list says it arrived 2 nd December. But there are 75 unnamed assisted passengers :(
-
This death record should record " length of time in NZ"
NZ BDM death
1885/6121 ATTWOOD John Edward 77Y

Sorry Carol I should have researched what was available on that cert!
I cant find them in 1851 either :P

wivenhoe; Ellen Maria Attwood b 1834 married William Munn 1854 Blean.
I do have an Intention to marry Certificate. (Transcription )
Archives NZ Wellington office.
Intention to Marry Certificate. Ref: BDM 20/12 Dunedin 1867 p.528/86.
Notice dated 25 March: Edward ATTWOOD, bachelor, a storekeeper aged 28 years, residing at Dunedin, length of residence 6 years to marry Louisa BURGESS, spinster, aged 30 years, residing at Dunedin, length of residence 15 months, in St Pauls Church, Dunedin. Minister: Rev. Edwards.
As the family were newcomer's to NZ after 1861 census this document is the closest I can get to arrival date although this only indicates how long they were living in a particular area before marriage.
$25 is a lot to pay just to find out how long in NZ.
Mckha489; On Charles ITM it says he has been in Dunedin for 2 years so Nov 1861 looks about right
Thank you to all for your help

Hi Carol,
Is it worth dropping a line to the NZSG Branch of Dunedin, or the Hocken Library, to see what they may have about the family arriving etc or have you been down this avenue?
John Edward Attwood first appears in 1867 on the Nominal Roll.
Cheers

Hi KHP
Thanks for that. I had not done that and was going to ask on NZ board where I would find information.
This is my late husband's line belonging to his birth family.
I have Attwood's and Burgess's. They lived in the Dunedin area and also at Fortrose. His line comes off Robert Attwood who was 18 on the 61 Census.
Robert married at Saint Paul's Church Dunedin on 25 March 1867 to Hannah Burgess. These were Doug's 2x great grandparent's.
I am out today but will definitely send off e-mails later today. Thank you.
