Janet DICKINSON was born c 1870 in the Pilling area, her father was a seafarer. She and her brother where orphaned and put into care, in fact she worked in a pub washing glasses at the age of twelve. She ran away to Liverpool and in 1896 she married Thomas CONLEY.
