Hi
Wondering if there is a monumental inscription for a James MOCHRIE in Brechin in the period 1831-1841.
James was born 1795 in Bathgate, West Lothian and married Isabella ANDERSON in Edinburgh in 1820.
The last child I have for the couple is Isabella MOCHRIE, born 1831 in Brechin. The family are in Brechin in the 1841 census, but James does not appear. His son's record of death indicates that James was a butler.
Thanks

Hi Allison My name is Don- noticed you were interested in information on James Mochrie and Isabella Anderson. I am a direct descendant of these individuals. Are you somehow connected to them may I ask.

Sorry Alastair -did not mean to incorrectly state your name

Hi Don
Yes, my ancestor is James' older brother, Robert.

Hi
I've come across this thread while googling for Isabella Mochrie and wondered if there is a connection.
Isabella was born in Bathgate about 1798 and died there in 1878. According to the death certificate her parents were Robert Mochrie and Marion Arthur but I cant find any record of their marriage. Robert's occupation on Isabella's death cert is given as "knight". Can anyone throw any light on this family?

Thanks for that Don - it looks very much as if Robert may be Isabella's brother as she was born about 1798. Possibly James born 1795 that Alastair mentioned in the earlier post is another sibling? I'm not directly related to the Mochrie's (Isabella is a 3 x great g/mother down one of the female lines) and I started looking at it only recently (to let the bruises from hitting brick walls with my other lines heal!) but the occupation of Isabella's father - knight- and the fairly unusual name caught my attention.
Thanks for taking the time to help Don, much appreciated.

Hi Jeanette
It was 'wright', not 'knight'. He was a master joiner.
Cheers
