I recently bought the will of William Charles WOOD and learned that he died on 30th March, 1914, at "Cannington", Mayfied, Sussex. I have searched for Cannington, but could not see anything in that area of Sussex?
Are there perhaps records of Monumental Inscriptions for St Dunstans, Mayfield? I don't know where he was buried.

Could it be the name of an individual property? I am sure Lewes Record Office might be able to help. They will probably have the burial registers too. Have you looked at the A2A site?

You are probably right about it being an individual property. The inverted commas should have alerted me that.

Found this thread during a google search for something non related to Family History, but as I live close by I can confirm, 'Cannington' is a large house on Newick Lane in Mayfield East Sussex. I dont know much about its history but its now split into 3/4 flats. :)
if you google map search TN20 6RA, 'Cannington' is the property below the one with the 'A' marker on it. On the 'street view' its the property on the right of the one with all the scaffolding up.
Are you still looking for his grave? If so, I'll have a look for you when I'm next near the church?

My grandfather, Charles Wood is a great mystery, so the more information I have on his parents and siblings, the more hope I have of learning something about him?
William Charles Wood, his daughter, Julia and his widowed sister-in-law, Harriet Burton, moved to Mayfield, Sussex between 1901 and 1911.
William died in March 1914 and Harriet died in February 1917. So they may both be buried at Mayfield?
The mystery about the son, Charles deepens, as he is not mentioned in either of their wills?
William Wood mentions his 3 daughters and Harriet Burton....Harriet mentions her 3 nieces.
Julia Chattock Wood was, by then, living at 1 Island Villas, Mayfield.
The last we hear of Charles Brietzcke Wood (in England) is in 1891 in the census...
William owned land in Canada and other members of the Wood family had settled there, so I thought maybe Charles had gone there too?
If this Charles is my grandfather, then, after creating a scandal in England, he joined the army and headed off to South Africa! ;D
