Title: DIDLICK/DIDLOCK Family
Post by: RosemaryD on Sunday 28 May 06 20:28 BST (UK)
I am researching the Didlick/Didlock family and would love to hear from anyone with any links.  All one family so if that's your name please contact me!  Originated in Shropshire but they are spread all over the world.

Do you have census details?

I can check out all the census from 1841 to 1901 if needed :)

Hi Jan,  That was really kind of you to offer but I think at the moment I'm alright on the Census info.  I'll certainly remember that though and get back to you if I need a hand.

Cheers & thanks again for your help.

Hi,  Thanks for replying to my message.  :)  I would love to hear from you and find out where you fit in.  I did e-mail but I'm not sure that you've rec'd it so thought I would leave another message in case.  I guess from your e-mail you are from Manchester?  I have had contact with family up there in the past - Bill Didlick & Julie?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rosemary

I have the Cainham Parish register in a word document that I could send to you which contains a number of Didlicks.  PM me with your email address if you would like it, more than happy to send it to you.

Hi Pete

I don't suppose I could impose on you to look for any Wilkinsons in the the Bitterley parish register, would be very much appreciated.

Hi Cherie

Welcome to Rootschat!  ;D

Just a tip, it's not advisable to post your email address on the main board otherwise you could be inundated with spam.   If you click on Rosemary's name at the left hand side of one of her posts, a screen will appear with her profile and if you look down the screen you will see "Send this Rootchatter a private message" (or something to that effect).  If you click on that you can send your email address in private.

If you click on Modify (top right hand side)  on your own posting, you can delete your email address and then resave the message or one of the mods can do it for you.

Cheers
Caz

Oh Pete..can't thank you enough.  I'm speechless that you have gone to all this trouble for me, you are very kind !!  Oh and definitely legend status!!  ;D ;D ;D

Obviously it's hard to know if these are the same couples but I'm pretty sure 90% of these are mine, later to settle in Cainham and I still have relatives in that area today some 400 plus years later.  (My rellies weren't big on travel LOL  ;D ;D ;D ;D)

If you ever need a photo restored (I spend most of my life on the photo restore board  ::) ) just say the word!!

Hi Pete

How long would it take for you to type 357 out....I'M KIDDING!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

I would be interested in any John, Richard, William, Benjamin and James Wilkinsons which are the main boys names, particularly very early.  I can trace a Wilkinson in Cainham around 1734 but prior to that I don't have anything so I figure they might have gotten adventureous and wandered about the neighbourhood a bit but if there are too many than don't worry, you have done so much for me already.

Many of the names you have given me from Bitterley tie in with names I have at later dates in Cainham.  ;D ;D ;D

Have a great day.

Cheers
Caz

Hi Caz :)

If you really want all the Wilkinsons mentioned, I will Pm you with them , save cluttering the boards up,  I would have to send them in batches of ab 50 as any more would exceed the limit,  I can send you batches as time allows, I thought I would ask first as you may not like a lot of unvited stuff in your mail,

all the best,
Pete :)

P.S. Caz I cheat really , I cut and paste, If you was to wait for me to type that lot, you would be with your rellies :) :),

Hi Trevor,  good to hear from you about Eliza.  I have had a look on my tree and I have an Eliza Didlick born to Henry & Mary Ann DIDLICK nee Walters in 1866 at Caynham in Shropshire.  It is very likely that her name changed at some stage to DIDLOCK and at least two of her brothers changed their name.  The Didlicks/locks are all mixed up but we all come from the same family!  I don't have any marriage details for Eliza but I did find an Eliza Didlock marrying a William Walter SEAR in 1883 in the Hemel Hemstead area so this could be her.

If there is anything else I can help with please let me know.  Eliza was one of 8 children.

Best wishes,

Rose Didlick :)

Thanks ever so much for the photo & yes a picture of St Mary's would be helpful too.  I have had a quick look at your info on Henry Didlick & Mary Anne nee Wilkinson and my info differs a little so hopefully I've managed to attach it to this message!  Hope it helps.  I think Trevor's Eliza is definitely another one!  I think your Betsy is Elizabeth.

Kind regards & thanks again.

Hi Trevor,

Are you related to Eliza or Walter William Sear?  Which side of the family are you wanting to trace?  It may help if you get the marriage certificate for these two so that you can confirm that Eliza is the daughter of Henry & Mary Ann Didlick.  If you need any help with that let me know and I'll talk you through it if that helps.

Cheers, Rose ;)

Hi there Rosemary
Walter William Sear is my GG Grandfather
In another tread on here i have been asking about Walter and some one has said this

Hi Trevor,
The IGI records the baptism of Eliza DIDLICK d/o Henry and Mary DIDLICK at Caynham, Shropshire on 13May1866.
In 1871 the family were at Brimfield Common, Herefordshire.
RG10/3039  F.53  P.7
Henry Didlick  Head  42  Labourer     Salop  Caynham
Mary   do        Wife   42      Salop Bitersley
William  13   George 10   ELIZA   5   all born Salop Caynham
Charles  1  bn Herefordshire  Brimfield.
By 1881 Eliza had left home and was a domestic servant with the Collings family at the Castle Mill, Ludlow St.Lawrence,  Salop.
Hope this helps.
Regards   ...   Peter

So it looks like My Eliza's parents are Henry and Mary Didlick.
As to what side of the family I am tracking it would be both :)
Thanks for all your help.
Cheers
Trevor

Hi, All

I am really sorry that I did not see this thread years ago. I only found it now because I was hunting google images and wondered what would come up with an unusual name like Didlock.

Anyway, the man you all needed to contact was Michael Didlick from Australia.  The reason why I haven't researched this name for years is because Michael sent me a copy of his life's work in 2003.  It was nearly 2 inches thick - there was so much of it.

About 1 inch of it is a typed family history and the rest is handwritten family history trees

It covers:
William Didlick + Rebecca Beddow's Family - The Cainham Settlers of 1720/ The Clee Hill Didlick clan - covering about 12 branches

John Didlick + Honoria Blakey's Family + numerous sub branches.

Samuel Didlick + Eunice Ann Butchers Family + numerous sub branches - this is my branch

William Didlick + Elizabeth Serjant - New England Australian Branch and numerous sub branches.

A couple of maps and a handful of photos.

I am hoping that Michael is already a member of Rootschat and hopefully aware of this thread. I must admit that in my excitement on seeing mention of Cainham, I haven't read all the posts.  I will, however, attempt to make contact with him via the 2003 contact details I have for him.

Kind Regards
Lana

Hi Lana, great to hear from you.  I know Michael & his family very well and in 2007 we spent a fantastic time with them in Australia so I am already in contact with them!  He has done great work on our tree and I too have done quite  extensive research and I'm still at it!  As you can imagine it continues to grow and I love getting into contact with members of our family.  Where do you fit in?  Would be excellent to hear some more from you and find you on my tree if you're there!

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it.  Take care,

Rose Didlick

Brilliant, Rose

So glad to hear that you know Michael - I thought it would be strange if people didn't know of his research.

I am related via Samuel Didlock and Eunice (Edith) Ann Butcher and their daughter Lucy Didlock who married James Southall in Tipton.

I must admit I have neglected this family since I had so much from Michael.  I concentrated on my Mitchells, Hansons, Arnolds, etc - all the commoner names.

It was really strange reading an old email from Michael last night where he talked about a trip he and the family had taken one day to Manley back in 2003!  I won a holiday to New Zealand last year and we went in February this year - the competition people were great and let us add locations to the trip.  So we stayed in the Rocks, Sydney and took the same trip to Manley (except it was raining when we went!).  Never in my life did I think when I read that back in 2003 that I would get the chance to do that.  Anyway, getting side tracked.  Just wish I had been more organised and had longer there - I could have met up with quite a few relatives on quite a few branches!

I bet the Didlick/Didlock research has come on in leaps and bounds with the ease that the internet has brought to research!  Although, there is masses of it from Michael even back then.

Say hello to Michael for me - I did send him an email last night but not sure if it will still work after all these years.

Best Wishes
Rachel (Lana)

Hello Marnix,

I can see a birth registration on Free BMD for a James Frederick DIDLICK, Jun Q 1909 (Stourbridge 6c 59) - if that sounds possible, a good starting place to find his parents would be the 1911 census.

James F DIDLICK married Nellie NORRIS, Dec Q 1932 (Stourbridge 6c 101).

Hi, I've just registered with Roots.com so I could reply to this thread - so bear with a beginner if my message appears mid-way through the chat.

I don't know whether it is relevant, but I hope it can help Rosemary's original question.  My grandmother's maiden name was Didlick, from Clee Hill in Shropshire, she was born in the early 1900s, Edith Mary Didlick, with a sister Lillian, and brothers Walter, and Thomas (although Thomas could have been her uncle, my memory is hazy).

Kind regards
Sam

Hi Sam,  thanks for replying.  I've just found your grandmother on the family tree, daughter of William & Molly nee Gwilt.  I have them down as having 11 children and Edith was their 3rd child born in 1908.  Did she marry someone call Mr Pardoe?  Would be great to hear some more from you.

Kind regards, Rosemary  :)

Hi, I am helping my partner to trace his family tree. We have been looking at Nellie or Nelly Didlick. She is his paternal great-grandmother, born 1895 and died 1958 in Coalville Leicestershire. His family originates from Shropshire but we are unable to trace Nelly's family. Can you help?

There was a Nellie Didlick born to parents George and Sarah Ann Didlick in Caynham, Shropshire, which is were my connection to the Didlick family comes from through Mary Ann Wilkinson.

This Nellie was baptised on 20 October 1895.

Looks like George Didlick married Sarah Ann Evans in 1882.  They also had a son George bon in 1887.

In the 1911 census, they appear living in Hope Bagot, Shropshire with daughters Mary 20; Nelly (new spelling) 15; Alice 12; Annie 9.

Do any of these names help?
