Title: Currie St Battersea - is it still there?
Post by: subee on Friday 02 June 06 22:20 BST (UK)
Hi All,

I have a record from 1901 which states my husbands Grandmother lived in Currie St Battersea with her parents and 8 brothers and sisters - in 3 rooms!!
is Currie St still there does anyone know? ???
Also if any kind soul would have a look at the census for Thomas Green b1853 what does it say are the occupations of William and Arthur?

any help kindly appreciated   :)

Just had a search in my London Street Atlas; Currie Street no longer around; unless it has been renamed.  The street my grandpa was born in (in Battersea) was renamed so it might be under a new name.

I've just tried 'googling' Currie Street, Battersea and several sites appear; including the Charles Booth Online Archive so you at least can have a look at the history of the area.

Hello

I don't think it is there anymore.  Believe is was located where the South Bank Business Centre complex is now located.

My elderly A-Z has it and yes it is now the South Bank Business Centre.

On this map it is just under ELMS in Nine Elms Lane and runs parallel in case you can't read it

Here's hoping I can resurrect this topic. I have just started my husband's family tree and one of his ancestors is also a Thomas GREEN, living at 24 Currie Street, Battersea. The connection is via Rose Emily GREEN, his daughter.

I have found a fair bit of info on the family but I can't find details of Thomas and his wife Jane, birth  surname believed to GILLAN/GILLAND, to move onto to their ancestors. Also Rose always told her children that she was one of 13 (William, Elizabeth, Ellen, Arthur, Gertrude, Alice, Annie, Richard, Thomas, Ethel and Lena). Any help with the missing sibling?

Thanks and fingers crossed.

Hi neighbour [sort of:)]
My great, great aunt and her family [the Hewetts] lived at 22 Currie St! I regularly check googlemaps as well to see if the place is still there.
All the best with your search,
roofytoo

Hi
My great grandmother lived at 20 Currie Street Battersea. Her name was Minnie Ely formerly Dennis nee Lightfoot. She died in 1947. She had four children, George Dennis, Hilda Dennis (D. 1940) James Dennis (D.1936) and Eddie Ely.
