Title: HEVENINGHAM HENNINGHAM, All
Post by: stlegermay on Monday 25 October 04 13:33 BST (UK)
I am researching the name HEVENINGHAM.  The family originated from the village of Heveningham in Suffolk where Sir Richard de Heuenigham held lands in the reign of  Henry II.  The  family also held lands in Essex and Norfolk.

A younger son of the Norfolk branch, Erasmus, married a Stanley heiress and settled on her estates in Staffordshire and became the ancestor of the Staffordshire Heveninghams.  They can be found mainly in Lichfied but can also be found in the Stone, Cannock and Wolverhampton areas.  They eventually branched out to Birmingham and the name then became known as HENNINGHAM (which is how is is pronounced).

Other dirivatives of the name are : HEUENYNGHAM, HYNINGHAM, HENINGHAM, HEVINGHAM, HEAVENINGHAM, HEVYNGHAM.

I would welcoming hearing  from anyone who is interested in this old English family and the families they married into.

Hi!

I hope you're still researching the HEVENINGHAM-HENNINGHAM families.

I get into them with Margaret, whose birth date and place and parents I don't yet have, when she marries Jasper PHESANT in 1531 or, according to some trees, 1534. Jasper's father is said to be Stephen.

I believe Margaret's line is to be from Suffolk.

Margaret and Jasper PHESANT had several children. One daughter, most often called Margaret, is stated to have married Stephen SLANEY (1524-1608) in 1559. He was an Alderman and later Lord Mayor of London.

I'd really appreciate corresponding with you about the family.

Many thanks,

I'm descended from Elizabeth Digby, Lady Wake (1575-1631), the daughter of Sir George Digby and Abigail HEVENINGHAM who died in 1602.

I have traced Abigail's line back a few generations (see below), but would love to connect it to the earlier Heveninghams in my tree, e,g,Sir John Heveningham MP (1359 - 1425).

Thomas Heveningham (1460 - 1499)
|
John Heveningham (1475 - 1536)
|
Anthony Heveningham (1507 - 1557)
|
Abigail Heveningham (1550 - 1602)

Best wishes,
Janice

Hi, Janice:

I don't have anything more than what I posted EXCEPT that Margaret's father was George who died in 1538 Tottenham, Middlesex, per his will.

Not sure where to look for definite information on George....

Cheers!

I have a bit more now....

George HEVENINGHAM (1484 - 1536) was the son of John (d. 1499) and Alice (Bruyn) (d. 1473) HEVENINGHAM.

George m. Margaret BURGOYNE (1489 - 1529), daughter of John and Margaret (Unknown) BURGOYNE.

Hope this helps others!

Well, obviously, either George's birth year is incorrect, Alice's death year is incorrect, or Alice wasn't George's mother. DUH!
