Title: Edgar Jerome HENDERSON in WA?
Post by: Lilygirl on Thursday 22 June 06 02:09 BST (UK)
Hi

Am wanting to find out when/how Edith Mary Beecroft nee Clegg came to Australia.

I know she married in 1925 Edgar Jerome Henderson but don't know where (would assume might be WA) so maybe can find their marriage details too if possible.

She was in England in 1912 when her husband died at sea as a ships doctor. Article in newspaper on his death mentions him leaving a wife and child in England.
She had a daughter Ruth Beecroft born in  1907 and  daughter Margaret Rebecca Beecroft born in 1909 both in Hyde, Cheshire that would have come with her.

She was living and I assume died in Western Australia

Hi Lilygirl,

Edgar Kerome Henderson died in 1928 aged 67 and is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth.  There is no sign of Edith so she may have remarried.

http://www.wags.org.au    This is the West Australian Genealogy Society.  Click on links for the cemetery and lot more.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for that.
I don't think that's her death but sure if him.
I have a feeling she remarried but not sure why I'm feeling that way?? Will have to hunt further.

It's funny Edgar was an architect, her father was also back in England! wonder if there's some connection there or just coincidence.

Thanks again,
Lilygirl.

HI,
I see also on the mcb site [listed above by Ros and Bob] that Ruth Ball, dies 1979 aged 72 is at Karrakatta too.  Last address Maylands.
Also there is her husband, George Richard who shares her grave .
There is also shown a George Ahtol BEECROFT Ball died 1995 aged 64 .He is from Leederville.  Age, name etc. suggest son of Ruth and George.
Can't find Margaret.

This is part of information I got when I googled Edgar's name

"Congregational Hall has a close association with H. S. Trigg, grandson of the founder of the Congregational Church in Western Australia.  Congregational Church has a close association with the architect Edgar Jerome Henderson (Criterion 2.3)

In 1906, the size of the congregation had grown to the extent that a Church could be built next door.  Congregational Church was built, in 1906, to a design by E. J. Henderson, and expresses Art Nouveau influences in its stained glass windows.

Edgar Jerome Henderson was born in Melbourne, and practised in Victoria where he did some church work:  Sale Cathedral (1885) and housing in Moonee Ponds and Essendon.  By 1896 he had moved to Western Australia and was working on the Convent School, Highgate (1898) in a partnership style Jefferies and Henderson.  By 1904, he is listed in his own practice and designing various commercial and residential buildings"

On National Archives website that Magoo gave is an Edgar Henderson Architect, listed as one of seven Western Australians receiving New Years Honours ( 31 December 1960)

Another relative perhaps....... ;D

Hi folks,
I've now found that Gilbert Dowling Henderson was the 3rd eldest child and also eldest of the identical twins with Edgar Le Blond. There was biog entry about Gilbert  who was a famous dentist I found googling quite interesting stuff!

Need to find eldest 2 brothers guessing born after parents marriage in 1885 and before 1890. Twins were born in Hawthorn, Melb.

Family moved to Western Australia in the late 1890's with 5 children so hoping to find deaths for another one and death date of Marie Kathleen in 1892.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Lily,
Trying to summarize the content of your 3 threads. Is this correct.
Peter Edwin Henderson m. Blond Leblon
They had children
Edgar Jerome 1861
Marie Caroline 1863
Emily Loisa 1865
Albert 1867

EDGAR jerome m. Mary O,Neil in 1895
They had children
Edgar le blond  and Gilbert Dowling [twins] 1890
Mary Kathleen 1892
Vic Leo 1994
Moya 1896

All went to WA.

You think there are 2 older children [you say BROTHERS] before the twins.

In 1925 Edgar Jerome marries Edith Beecroft [Clegg]. Second time for both HE dies 1928 Do you know what happened to Mary O'Neil?
Am I right so far?
I hope we are on the right track to continue your interesting search.
Sue

The baby and mother or Ed. and Esther ?

I wonder whether the last wife. Edith Beecroft is in the same area too.
Probably she remarried and we will not find her as Lily has hoped.

HI,
Among others of these offspring on the NAA site, I can see a PHILLIP Vaughan Henderson.  Right approx birth date and NOK G Henderson.  Maybe mistranscribed at one time or the other, but same man
Also Kevin Francis Henderson is there,as in the airforce, but apart from birth date and NOK [ G. Henderson] everyhting is NOT KNOWN. Same for him on WW2 site.  It's funny when we seem to know so much of him.  Maybe records were lost.  Perhaps Lily will send away for details

Hi everyone,

Yes you've got it Sue I modified those others to completed to avoid more confusion. Thought it easier to start with asking single things in posts but you're right gets too confusing.

Don't know what happened to Mary O'Neil or Edith for that matter really.
I'm in touch with a grand daughter of hers who's yet to get back to me but has mentioned she'll tell me what she can find.
There's a death entry on list in WA for Edith Mary BEECROFT but why would she have gone back to name of her first marriage?? seems a bit strange? - Until I see what's written about where Gilbert is buried with first wife - wonder what went on there??mystery!...talk about intrigue!

There's an age but no date of death for Edith Mary BEECROFT.
Someone in the family gave me death date of 17 Apr 1945 but not sure where???

Thanks again for all your help so far everyone interesting isn't it!!

Also looking for death of Edith Mary Clegg, BEECROFT then HENDERSON's youngest daughter - Margaret Rebecca BEECROFT born 1909 Hyde Cheshire, married Louis Philip JOUBERT not sure when but assume in WA. I know she died before 1980 but again not sure of date or place.
Maybe someone can dig her out!!!!

Would also love to find out when Edith Mary BEECROFT came to Australia - soon after her husband died I suppose in 1912? Any ideas!?

How cool is this stuff!!!!! Wish all my lines were so interesting. Although I have got another line with intrigue in the West! I might post for some help on at some stage!

Gotta love Perth been there few times can't wait to get back again - still got family there and they're unreal!

Happy hunting!
Keep it up!

Lilygirl.

She was born in 1867 so I'm sure that's her.

Wonder what she was doing in Goomalling!? and why she called herself BEECROFT again.

Hi Lily and friends,
On the old favourite NAA, I can see Louis Philip Jobert DOB 1910, NOK Margaret Joubert. Pob, Melbourne.  Enlisted Melb.
This file is OPEN meaning if you apply online and wait a while, you can have it digitised for reading.
Also I see Joubert, Numa Ferdinand whose NOK is GEORGE ARTHUR Jourbert.   This is fully digitised now.
So he may well be a brother of Louis.  The new biographical site [above] introduced to us by Dennford. has a lenghthy article on the Melb. Jouberts.  Quite illustrious.  I still know a Melb Joubert who is an architect.

It seems there were 8 brothers Joubert.!!

Hi Sparett
I looked at applying a while back to have a record digitilised not sure if it was that site or not but didn't really understand what was involved. Do you have to send in form can anyone do it does it cost?
Guess I should have another look they may have made it a bit clearer how to go about it.

DO you have any idea how long it takes?

What site do you mean regarding the jouberts 8 siblings? I can't seem to find it on the biographical one posted. What are you searching with?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Lilygirl.
Title: Re: Edgar Jerome Henderson in WA?
Post by: sparrett on Wednesday 28 June 06 05:57 BST (UK)
Hi Lily
Yes, on the biographical site posted by Denn.
I just used the quick search at the top and put in Joubert.
The biography was about the Jouberts who were active in late 1800's and one of the 2 brothers had 8 sons.  The names Jules and NUMA and Dinnier seem to keep recurring through the many listings on the NAA site so there was a relationship in there somewhere.

As to the digitisation.
This is straight forward if the flie is listed OPEN.  Just follow the prompts on the screen.  No cost   Wait up to 6 weeks [but not always so long]
If not examined, there is another process,  It does not cost, but you must request through a different set of questions etc.  all there on the site.
Please let me know if you have difficulty with either of these 2 leads and I will post more specific links. Sue

I have just been totally engrossed in the digit. service history of Louis Phillip's brother [I believe!!] Numa Ferdinand.
Apart from an insight into his life  -enlisting underage, getting found out , falsifying documents being discilpined for laziness etc. etc. we can also see a letter from the father G.
Now I live not so very far from the Kingston Street mentioned and it is a very 'good part of town'
I love the letterhead that George uses.  Tells us his profession and so on.
Intrigue!

Now I live not so very far from the Kingston Street mentioned and it is a very 'good part of town'
I love the letterhead that George uses.  Tells us his profession and so on.
Intrigue!
S.

I also had a look Sue must admit I am a sucker for a digitalised record
side bar to all of this Sue have you also noticed that the men are definately taller than they were back in the Great War  most seem around 5'4" or so  not many a great deal larger

Hi Jenn,
We've both made small slip in our last posts.
I said Louis was enlisted Melb. Wrong. Enlisted Gnowangerup
You said from Gnowangerup. Wrong born Melbourne.
Wish my rellies were as interesting as Lily's
Sue

a slip of the pen knew he was born in melbourne just meant he was from there you know he's from there not necessarily born there

regards jen

Also I see Joubert, Numa Ferdinand whose NOK is GEORGE ARTHUR Jourbert.   This is fully digitised now.
So he may well be a brother of Louis.

I think there is another Numa Ferdinand  Jourbet but older and born in noumea.  V. V. confusing. Sue

Hi all,

Re: Peter Edwin Henderson and Blond Jane Caroline LeBlon (tropicalj)
and: Peter Edwin Henderson m. Blond Leblon (sparrett)

In the interests of accuracy may I point out that Peter Edwin HENDERSON married Jeanne Louisa Caroline LE BLOND (not Blond Leblon!) who was known as Caroline. They married in Hamilton, Scotland 1848 and emigrated to Australia in 1857. Hope this is of interest.

Hi Alison,

I guess that makes you the great great grand-daughter of Peter Henderson and Caroline Le Blond. I am a great great great great grandson of Caroline's parents.

Les

Les I would suggest that the chatters helping with the research were transcribing from the indexes and as we all know there are many spelling errors especially of the more unusual names.   The thread dates from 2006 ;)

Cheers :)

Yes indeed Cando  that  was the case our information  is only  as good as the  information  on  the indexes  and we can only supply  the information  as stated.

This  is a very  helpfull  site  and I  think  that the original  poster of  the Question  got a lot of help.

Hello Lilygirl

I know this is an old posting so I hope you are still on here! I am the great grand daughter of Edgar Jerome Henderson. His son Edgar Le Blond Henderson was my grandfather. Both these men were architects and died in Western Australia. Edith Beecroft was Edgar Jerome's third wife. My grandfather was a son from his first marriage to Mary Josephine O'Neil. Happy to provide more information.
