Can any one help I am trying to find out where my family surname could have come from, the surname is Derry and i am currently try to trace a James Derry that was born in Spalding in Lincolnshire or could have moved there around the 1850's

According to my trusty book on Irish Surnames the surname Derry originates in Donegal

The ancient Irish form of the surname Derry is O Doirighe.

Doirighe is from the Irish word Doire which means "Oak Grove" or "Grove of Oaks"
