Title: MCDONALD Hannah 1819 Rathdowney, Laoighis
Post by: srp123au on Saturday 01 July 06 04:38 BST (UK)
Looking for the registered birth/christening record and her parent's names?
She immigrated to Port Jackson, Australia in 1837 on Sir Charles Forbes which was a convict ship, before marrying William Beer in 1842 St Marys' in Sydney.
How could I find out what she was convicted for??

Hello.

Laoighis (pronounced Lace) is the gaelic version, Laois is the
anglicised version and Queens was the name under english rule.

The Griffiths Valuation Index (1847-1864) shows no McDonald in
the county.

Mike.

Have tried all the  search engines, but too no avail.

I have transcribed Rathdowney headstones of both R C and C O I, but the name is not there either.
Regards
Jack

Hi
I am a descendant of the same line through Ross Donnelly Beer. I know as much as you do. What I find interesting however is that Ross second name is Donnelly which makes me think this could be Hannahs surname rather than McDonald? I am related through Clara Beers and Wiliam Kelly..
I haven't had time to look at it for a while I look every now and again.
Unfortunately I think a lot of records were lost..
Hope this helps!

Hmm that's would make more sense, as McDonald seems more Scottish then Irish?!?

I'm related through Richard Charles Beers and Lily Maud Beers, their son Richard Charles (Junior), he and Doris (Dorothy Irene May Maher) had Florence Lily May Beers (Crane) who is my grandmother.

I found something quiet interesting today.

A Ross Donnelly from Lane Cove Sydney owned a farm

He in 1853 in his last will and testament had Hannah and William Beer as his executor's

Her address was listed as 220 Elizabeth Street Sydney.

Maybe he was good to them, and Ross Donnelly Beers was named after him????
