Hi Wildgoose
Have you tried looking for her under Elspeth or Elizabeth. These names were often interchangeable with Euphemia. Euphie/Euffie was also used as a diminutive in my family.

Thanks for that. I'll look also thought she may appear under her maiden name if a widow.

Dear Gadget,
Still no joy with different surnames...this is a very akward brickwall. Also tried at last known location - ANGUS.

Hi Dave
I'll have a go at them later on today. It's a puzzle - must be somewhere.
DO NOT GIVE UP!

She will be there, hopefully with sp.James MARTIN, but it could be a mispelt name or wrong age or combination of both. I thought she may well have reverted to her maiden name of STEEDMAN which has a variety of spellings. That said I also have come across MARTIN spelt MARTINE.
Many thanks
Dave
ps my gran was a WILDGOOSE

I refuse to comment on Wildgoose :D
I've been looking on SP, Freecen and Ancestry for variations on these names but can't find anything remotely like them.
I just don't understand ??? Euphemia, Euphie, Euffie, Effies, Elspeth, etc. must be there ...................

Thanks for the help. The only "clue" I have is that she was born in KINROSS. I have found this more help then her name or age. Perhaps she went back home?

Sorry :-[

The only female Martin in Kinross in the 1841 is a Rachel Martin, 50-54, Portmoak, Ref - 464/4/3

Many thanks for your time. She will be around somewhere. The only thing I can think off is a mis-spelt surname, e.g. the 1851 Forfarshire Census her son Thomas is recorded as Thomas MARTAIN.

Hi Dave
I've just been having a look at my previous searches onSP and I seem to have tried evey combination of names and didn't manage to come up with anything.
It's obviously either a vey bad transcription error or she didn't get entered - some peopel were missed (as they still are) and sometimes some books go missing or have been destroyed.
Sorry - I have similar cases with the 1841 and 1861 in Wales.

I still can't understand how she managed to get missed off both the 1841 & 1851 Census. Also she was married in 1812 and I have only found record of three children:
Thomas b1817
John b1819
Elspeth b1820
There surely must have been others?
Many thanks once again...
Dave
