I'm researching my Grandfathers family, I have managed to trace them back to 1757. What I'm trying to find out is who was the mother of John Pierre Victor Francois Goupillot born 1823 his father was Auguste Bienamie born 1803. I do know that Jon Pierre married Jeanne Marie Victoria Morin and two of thier daughters worked for Victor Hugo (one being mentioned in his diaries) If any one can help I would be most grateful, this is the missing part in my tree.
Many thanks

Hi -
I think I have the family in 1841 census, Guernsey, but the enumerator is a bit mean with the details:
1841 Guernsey, St Peter Port distr. 4, page 1, piece 11, folio 26
No.1 Commercial Arcade
A.B. Goupillot 38 Grocer b: France
Mrs S Goupillot 30 b: Guernsey
Anne 7
L [female] 3
Augustine 2
Unfortunately I did not find JPVF Goupillot.

Many thanks for that Mike, this A B Goupillot is my 4xGt Grandfather. He married Rachel Carre (1829)with whom he definately had two children - Male (born and died 1831), and Augustus Thomas(b 1835). JPVF (wonderful initials) was born 1823 so I think that 6 years is a bit of a too bigger gap. He then married Sophie who is Mrs S Goupillot in 1841 ish
Because Auguste was born in Cherbourg I wonder if JPVF was born there and went to the Channel Islands with his father ( and possibily his mother) and so there is no record of his birth in the Channel Islands
Many thanks again

Hello Ed,
I live in France (Normandy) et I believe that the family Le Goupillot (it's my name) came from Cotentin (around Cherbourg). Perhaps some of them left to go to work in channel islands. I would try to find connections between names from my tree and persons found in channel islands census.
Do you know the names of women Le Goupillot who worked for Victor Hugo in Guernsey ?
Regards
-
Ed the Cat, I suppose you know that there is a Victor Hugo Museum on Guernsey, in his old house, who may be able to help if you need really obscure information. Tel 01481 721911.

I've only just come to this site but can offer a few comments on this family. JPVF was my great-great grandfather and he moved to Alderney in the late 1840's as a construction worker on the breakwater. He then seems to have decided to stay and is listed on the 1861 census as an agricultural labourer. I have 5 children for him - one born in France the rest on Alderney. By 1871 the family are living in St. Martins, Guernsey. After that it gets a bit confusing.
Has anyone sorted out the 'Augustus' link yet? I think there might be some connection purely because so many of the children have Augustus or Augustine as one of their names, but I have never been able to make a definite connection with anyone in France. I am assuming they are originally from the Cherbourg area but if I'm wrong, please tell me!
With reference to Elsie Le Goupillot, I had a great-aunt named Elsie le Goupillot - she married Wilfred Le Goupillot, my grandmother's younger brother. I don't have much other information I'm afraid - for instance I do not know her maiden name.
-
Hi,
if Wilfred was your grand mothers younger brother then your grandmother would have been a Violet or Daisy.
Elsie was a Dowinton.
-
Hi lou, I don't suppose your going to see this, but in the family tree you have, are there any Reid's in it? As my dads dad was cecil legoupillot. My dad then had his named changed to Reid. My dads mum was called Ellen, maiden name Bickerstaff.

I just noticed your post below. I have Auguste B. Goupillot in my tree, born c1803 France. I have his 2nd wife as Mary Judith Le Page born c1836 St Sampson, Guernsey and died 11 Jul 1876. Mary married Auguste between 1861 and 1871. Mary was my gtx 3 grandfather's niece and d/o James Le Page and Rachel Tabel (sister of my gt x 3 grandfather). I don't know if she had any children with Auguste.

Hello,
As you go back to the middle of the 18th century, you know who the parents of Auguste Bienaimé are and where he was born in France, right ?
I find a boy called Auguste Bienaimé GOUPILLIOT (the signature of his father GOUPILLOT) born in 1802 in Quequeville in 1802. Declaration made by the father on Brumaire 20th year 11 (revolutionary calendar). Born the day before = 11/NOV/1802 to Joseph GOUPILL(I)OT and Marie Colastique HERBERT

The family tree on Geneanet : https://gw.geneanet.org/bcdgl78?lang=fr&p=auguste+bienaime&n=legoupillot
His wife is listed as Marie GUERGNY
In the death record of their daughter Marie Josephine GOUPILLOT in 1831 at the age of two, the place of birth given is Guernesey.
http://www.archives-manche.fr/ark:/57115/a0112880857729nMuhD/3c84dc19ad
fille de Auguste Bien-aimé GOUPILLOT et de feue Marie GUERGNY (the late Marie GUERGNY).
Auguste Bienaimé GOUPPILOT is a widower
The child died in the house of a relative. Unfortunately a word is missing "au domicile de sa grande ... " May be at her great aunt's, unless he meant her grandmother and made a confusion with the address.
After the death of his wife (between 1829 and 1831), I guess that Auguste Bienaimé GOUPILLOT sent their child(ren) back to France, in his family.

By the time of the 1841 census, Auguste was back living in Guernsey and married again to Sophia (surname unknown). She must have died between 1851 and 1871. Most likely between 1851 and 1861. By 1871, Auguste had married again to Mary Judith Le Page, d/o James Le Page and Rachel Tabel (Rachel was my gt x 3 grandfather's sister).
