Title: John Carbery of Wexford
Post by: Ian Watson on Saturday 05 August 06 10:20 BST (UK)
My grandfather, John Carbery of Wexford is believed to have been a sergeant-major in the Militia round about 1883. I will be grateful if someone can tell me where can I find more information about this force?  His wife was Elizabeth[nee Byrne or Whelan]. At this time they lived in 2 Michael St Wexford and had three children.  Any info will be gratefully accepted.
Thanks Ian

Hello Ian,

A post on RootsChat Armed Forces board may produce more information for you.

The Royal Irish Regiment was reorganised in 1881 as the county regiment of Kilkenny, Tipperary and Waterford, and Wexford, encompassing also its Militia infantry

Doubtful. And even if you did find something, may not be particularly useful. You may be thinking of the complete service records that can exist for Great War soldiers? They don't exist as far as I know for Victorian era servicemen. What may exist in the English national archives are pay rolls, muster books, and records of the Royal Hospitals.
