.... and a trip to the West Country in November should help sort out the Somerset, Dorset and Devon families and source some of the certificates - the last online request stated that George Hill did not marry Ann Poole - and I hadn't found any possible parents/siblings for her anyway!
To make the 16, I just need to identify Ann and find her parents
Watermusic
..... I've found Ann's surname, but little else over the last 4 years ...and I had my Sarah Ann Parris (Margaret on FreeBMD) parents wrong, so now I have to find Elizabeth Edmunds of Chard's family..
Still ongoing

Hi Anna
Your lines show that you are younger than me although my mother was in her 40's
and her mother in her 40's when they had us so that would make it alot of people's
Gt Grand-parents whilst I am only on Grand-parents.
Good to see all the names we are listing. ;D
Anyone found all 16. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy - had the same thought about that whipper-snapper ;) ;D
By the way isnt it 24 ?
-
Hi Scoppers
No we haven't done 16 sets yet (i.e. making total of 32 ). LOL
Sandy
-
Lost me - 8 g*2 Grandparents
16 G*3
Total = 24 ?
Added Note after next 2 posts - I should have said SETS !
-
You have 16 gg grandparents(2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 g grandparents) and there will be 32 ggg grandparents. This thread came off one the 4 great grandmothers- 4 trees thread so the 8(being half of 16) in this thread was a relating to a combination of gg grandmother/gg grandfather. Hope makes you less confused!
Gordon
-
Now my head is really spinning.
Sets of rellies
Starting with me 1.
Next line 2 = Mum, Dad
Next line 4 =2 sets of Grand-parents
Next line 8 = 4 sets of Grand-parents
Next line 16 = 8 sets of Grand-parents
We have made 4 sets over to you Scoppers.
Sandy
-
I wasnt confused thanks Gordon - can count in binary too ;D - I guess I didnt use the word SETS or COUPLES in my short note.
I also thought that Sandy meant to add the G*2's to the G*3s - 8+16 SETS = 24 !
40-30 I feel ;D
Going for Deuce ?
PS. I've only been here 2 months, so wasnt aware of previous thread :D
-
We've been discussing the generation thing over tea and we were wondering when family trees become superfluous ???(Is that the right word?)
If your ancestors double every 30 years, in effect, you soon clock up some huge numbers of people- 210 years ago, you had 128 ancestors in that "breeding generation "300 years ago it was 1024. If you carried on you would reach a point about 700 years ago when you would have more ancestors than the population of the country (if it weren't for inbreeding).
So are we all related to Chaucer, or is there a big flaw in this line of thinking?
Fred ???
-
'tis fascinating - and shows how big the population was then ! ;D
-
Scroppers your counting makes perfect sense now that know it was sets not individuals!!
Anyway not got all 16 sets (got 15) from the 3*g generation due to illegitimacy. Also in one of the sets in this generation the husband may not be the father of my gg grandfather
Paternal side:
Robert Douglas and Jane Telford (m Carlisle 1824)
William Donaldson and Rebecca Jardine (m 1845 St Mungo Dumfriesshire )
William Black and Isabella Wright (m 1847 Dalziel, Lanarkshire)
John Faulds and Isabella Lindsay (m 1847 Dalziel, Lanarkshire)
Andrew Townsley and Mary Docherty (m 1856 Antrim)
Terrence Cunningham and Mary Campbell (m 1854 Glasgow)
Thomas Davidson and Ann Killalely/Killala/Killale (m 1863 Auchlenck Ayrshire)
John Campbell and Susan McLuskie (not got marriage date before 1855 and RC so not in OPRs)
Maternal side:
James Gray and Catherine Pettigrew (married 1845 Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire)
Archibald Richardson and Elizabeth Pitcairn (married 1841 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire)
John Craig and Jean Campbell (married 1866 Glasgow)
John Campbell and Agnes Cowan (married 1883 New Monkland, Lanarkshire)
John Tripney and Georgina Corbett (married 1873 Falkirk)
James Thomson and Christina Thomson (married 1876 New Monkland) (no obvious family relationship found betwen these Thomsons!)
Margaret Muir and Francis Lauchlan (married 1870 New Monkland but was Francis the father of William?)
Gordon
Update: Got new info thanks to Rootschat!!!! John Campbell who married Susan McLuskie was actually John Campbell McIlhern(or similar sounding spellings). Knew he was from Armagh already but it seems that over the years he dropped the McIlhern surname over his years in Scotland and used his middle name Campbell as a surname. So now know the marriage was in 1854 and now got his daughter Rose(my great great grandmothers) birth entry which I couldn't find before. All thanks to MonicaLesl who discovered the other surname for me ;D
-
Hi Scoppers
Only joined the other thread myself yesterday ;D started this one to see how many we could note.
2 months and a over 1,000 posts. ;D I have been here just over a year and only
clocked up 2,000 + ;D but then I mainly stay on a couple of forums that's enough for me. ;D
Hubby says we ususally count in the power of ten and with our rellies we count in the power of two.
Glad he knows what he is talking about. ;D ;D ;D (only joking)
Obviously the younger you are means you would be travelling a lot quicker
down them than alot of us. ;D
Cheers Sandy

I havent traced down the male line .... bumped into a stumbling block some years back - should probably revisit.
1. JOSEPH1 MOULE was born Abt. 1688. He married MARY. She was born Abt. 1688.
Children of JOSEPH MOULE and MARY are:
2. i. GRACE2 MOUL(E), b. 1709, Barley, Hertfordshire; d. Ickleton.
ii. JOSEPH MOUL(E), b. 1711, Barley, Hertfordshire.
Generation No. 2
2. GRACE2 MOUL(E) was born 1709 in Barley, Hertfordshire, and died in Ickleton. She married THOMAS LILLEY 1731 in Barley, Hertfordshire. He was born Abt. 1710, and died in Ickleton.

I'm surpised how many people are prepared to make available their first name, surname and mother's maiden name in a thread like this. Your age (in your profile) can be quite useful too. ;)
-
Yes Geoff
I realise that a lot of banks still ask for such information for security etc, but they have become a little more difficult to guess as they use a combination of letters and numbers.
If anyone want to gain access to my meagre savings, they are more than welcome. If they want to spend using my credit cards, go ahead, if I get sent to prison because I can't pay the bills, at least I will be able to do an Open University degree which I can't afford to do while I am working.

I have:-
Maternal Side
Ann White DALE m William George HAMBLING 1841 Gorleston Suffolk
Charlotte HODDS m James John ROYAL 1848 Great Yarmouth Norfolk
Hannah Maria FUTTER m John TANN 1840 Norwich Norfolk
Harriet OSBORNE did not m Robert MILLER in Hethersett Norfolk when her son was born in 1854. The record stated:Notes Illegitimate - Mother a widow. (He was born 18 months after her husband Simon Jackson had died and was given both men's surnames)
Paternal Side
Elizabeth WILLIS m Benjamin Walton COOPER 1818 Birmingham
Elizabeth HILLS m James HARVEY 1810 Brightlingsea Essex
Mary Ann CONNOR m Francis GARRETT 1827 Bloomsbury London
John MORTON m Sophia HOLFORD 1844 Windsor Berks.
On the maternal side I can muster 13 of the 16 next generation. One was an unmarried mother, the father of her child unknown and I haven't traced Robert Miller's ancestry-though I'm certain I know who he was -a friendly neighbour!
The paternal side is much harder-only 9 names and not much else! A combination of being much earlier, relatively common names and more geographically scattered.
It doesn't help that both my parents-and their parents in turn were younger children. By the time I was born my father's oldest sister was 60! Enough time for at least another generation if not 2! :-\
-
Here's my go:
Paternal
Luke Hogard Henry Pine m. Frances Dowdeswell 1836 Beaminster, Dorset
Roger Kempster m. Sabina Hounslow 1847 Hardwick, Bucks
Jon Olof Lundqvist m. Sara Johanna Josephine Springer 1850 Harnosand, Sweden
John Smith m. Ellen Buchanan 1855 Maybole, Ayrshire
Maternal
Anthony Sando m. Elizabeth Poley/Pooley 1848 Adelaide, SA
Thomas Edwards m. Elizabeth Nancarrow 1860 Redruth Cornwall
Joseph Hamilton McGuire m. Ann Marie Harris 1879 Adelaide, SA
Peter Carrington and Annie Meyler (née Wood) did not marry; both born in SA
-
And for the next generation, I have all the paternal sets, and 5 of the maternal sets, with one set missing, and just fathers for the other two. Work in progress......
-
Paternal

What I like about these sort of threads, it gives you a sense of focus on what you have missing.
-
I've just had to make a few adjustments due to following a false trail, but here's what I have.
Great great grandparents.
PATERNAL SIDE
George Kiping Burrows (1863 - 1931) married Elizabeth Sinden (1869 - 1949) at Holy trinity Church, Harrow Green, Essex on 26 November 1888
William Packman (1852 - 1926) married Rhoda Hannah Baker (1856 - 1905) at St George's church, Deal, Kent on 3 July 1882
James Charles Murphy (presumed father, but he may not have been, 1868 - 1912) married Jane Piper (1873? - 1917) at St Ann's Roman Cathloic Church, Whitechapel, Middlesex on 13 October 1890, when Jane's two children were aged 10 and 5
Thomas King Spooner (1857 - 1932?) married Harriet Tamer Martindale (1853 - 1905) at St Mary's church, Hoxton, Middlesex on 2 April 1879
MATERNAL SIDE
William Hardwick (1860 - 1928?) married Emma Wiles (1862 - 1930) in Great Staughton, Huntingdonshire in 1884
Charles James Christopher Stephenson (1855 - 1919) married Emily Cass Holcomb (1860 - 1936) at Hendon, Middlesex in 1885 (although he was from Newmarket; and she had been born in Mile End and grew up in the Newmarket area. She had gone to London to have her first, illegitimate child, my great grandmother, who was named Myrah Cass Stephenson Holcomb, and who I presume to have been the daughter of Charles James Christopher Stephenson. In later documents, the fact that her surname was ever Holcomb is carefully suppressed, which made tracking her down the devil's own job ...)
Joseph Oakey (1851 - 1896) married Ann Peabody (1850 - 1925?) in St Pancras in 1876
William Foster (1856 - 1933) and Eliza Weatherley (circa 1860 - 1936?), who are said to have been married 29 years in the 1911 census, but who as far as I can tell never did marry.

Further information leads me to believe Michael Sheehan married Ann Quinlan 1864 instead of Catherine O'Sullivan
(just means I don't have a land rights claim on O'Sullivans Beach ;D )

Added the info, then realised it was an old thread, not a new one and I had added the info in 2011.

I am also fortunate enough to have found all thirty-two of my great-great-great-grandparents.
That must have been a lot of work, all in Ireland. I have recently completed my set of 16, but only have about 26 of the previous generation. Four of the missing six were from the Dungarvan area.
