Hello all you sandgroping Rootschatters (and I know you are out there!) ;D
My great-great-grandfather's brother, Richard Septimus HAYNES, was a big-time barrister and politician in WA in the 1880s-1920s. Apparently he lived in a house called "Windsor Hall", at 36 Queens Crescent, Mt Lawley. I believe it has been considered for heritage listing (not sure if it was ever scheduled, though).
Does anyone live nearby, or travel past, who could take a piccy of the house for me?
Yours in easterly remoteness
:)

hi Prue,
Don't get north of the river too often but I shall keep it in mind, don't hold your breath though, cos it could be ages.

I sometimes go close to Mount Lawley, will have to try and remember to pack my camera in the car net time, I only go down that way to take the wife for a shopping trip to buy Asian food, but will try my best, give us a week or two and hope I remember the camera.

THanks to both of you, there is no rush for the piccy so whenever you can get there will be just fine :)

The house in question is surrounded by trees and has an ugly building next door, It would have been a beautiful place when it was built, still a nice house, has verandahs around the side in a semi circular fashion. could just get a glimpse of the side not a bad shot of the front, I have six will post two to start with.

heres another two, one showing the lion standing guard by the front steps

WOW :o
What a beautiful place!
Pity about what looks like a six pack next door...
Wonder if I can claim ancestral land/property rights on the house? ;D

It is just across the road from Perth College Girls boarding school, I can just imagine the old lawyer sitting on the verandah looking over at the girls playing crocket, hoping for a glimse of ankle as he swilled down his gin and tonic, that was before the red brick monstrosity was built of course.

Sorry, got to butt in here ... wow! That is one gorgeous house!!
Well looked after and with a lovely garden too. It's always a shame when such homes have monstrosiites built so close to them - should be a law against it!
Lovely nevertheless.

Prue,
Them pics are about half size, if you want the original size I can send you.

I was seriously thinking of cutting down some of the trees that were spoiling the chance of getting a good shot, but I was out of two stroke for the chain saw in the boot, we always carry such things here for when we have to hack away at the bush to get somewhere, it being such a wilderness here.
-
Nice pad eh?

It is a very nice area round there Denn, some nice old houses, that one is just about two blocks from Beaufort street so would be terribly noisy, if you are ever up that way it is just after Perth College on the river side. you would need a coupla million to think about buying it but. I am safe back in Joondalup listening to the birds singing.
Think there are a few ghosts there as well
-
;D wooooo...those are very colourful spooks! ;D
Seriously though, thanks bogga, they are great pics of a lovely house (pity about the chain saw, you really should be more prepared if you're going to go bush!) I agree though - would probably have been nicer before motor cars and highways :)
Many, many thanks - and to you too, Denn, for the kind offer :D Bogga, I will PM you with my email, as I'd love the full size pics.

It looks like the sort of place that people go to live when they can't afford Gosnells!

Hi Prue I also finally got there today to photograph the house for you heres a shot anyway!
I noticed that it is now a private residence for 2 families one either side of the House so its 36 a and b.
Its also got the Heritage Council plaque outside on one of the pillars.

Much appreciated :)

Just came across this and see it's pretty old. I'm not sure if earlier attempt at reply was sent. I am a descendent of Richard Haynes (living in WA) and have more family information if you're still interested.
