Post by: MikeGH on Saturday 26 August 06 19:04 BST (UK)
Hi,

I have an old family bible in my possession that includes a number of entries for the James Family.

I believe that this family came from the Faringdon / Littleworth area in the mid 1800's.

ANyone with possible interest please let me know.

Hi there

Its a long shot after so long but my relations are the James family and go back to 1522 Muster Roll in Faringdon  They farmed at Littleworth and Thrupp between 1638 and 1890.  I am interested to know if you still have the bible.  My mother can remember a bible from when she was a girl in Faringdon which disappeared when her grandmother died.  Look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks

Hello Sue,
Yes, it's been a long time. but I do still have the bible, if I can find it again!

If you can give me some more information to check against it I'll very gladly let you have it if it's a match.

Mike

You can click on the scroll beneath someone's name to send them a PM, or you can just click on their name.

It's exciting that the bible seems to have found it's rightful family. Please let us know how you get on.  :)

Before you part with the bible I would scan the names within it then if anyone contacts you in the future you can send the information to them.
I have rehomed three bibles, one with a Victorian photo album, over the last couple of years. One went to Canada, one to Spain and the other one to the IOW. It's very satisfying to know that they go to relatives on not on ebay  :D

After several previous attempts to trace the current generation of this family I am extremely pleased to say that the bible is now on it's way to Australia to the 2 x great granddaughter of the original recipient, Edward James 1827 - 1891.  The bible was dedicated to Edward in 1838 by his mother Sarah (Gould) & is inscribed with his & his wife’s date of birth, their marriage date & the birth of their 2 children.  One daughter married, lived in the Reading area and had one daughter who never married or had children.  The other married & emigrated to Australia.  Explains why it was so difficult to track them down!
