Title: Paleography' Help
Post by: welshspencer on Sunday 03 September 06 00:31 BST (UK)
If there is any Paleography's out there i need your help with some Chancery Documents from form the late 1400s.

I am trying to find out the first name of a Mr Gewn's first name

– here are several versions of it – any ideas?  In the first example the surname translates as Geyn.  The fourth example almost looks like Exeter!

Not a paleographer, but might it be Seth?

Hi welshspencer  :)

Not sure, but the last two words look different from the first two words...any chance of some bigger (higher-resolution) scans of them all?

Hi welshspencer  :)

Still a bit hard to read them, but I think the first letter might be a "C"...then an "a", then "r" or "t", then "e"....

Will keep working!

Sorry a bit to big , and dont know how to delete it

Moderator comment:  I deleted it for you.  If possible, a higher resolution scan would be good rather than resizing the image - it tends to blur too much

As Prue said above (back in 2006), and as she (and then I also) said over on your other thread ('bumped' from a year ago) at:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,286957
the problem really is the poor quality of the scan.

The writing is hard enough to read anyway - but when it's all pixellated and blurred it makes it extremely difficult.

I do hope that you can get scans at a higher resolution.

JAP
Later edit: Another 'bumped' thread (from March 2008) is at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,289865.0.html
