Hi Anne
This may be the family in 1841, from FreeCen:
MCKENZIE John 25 Jrnymn Ropemaker b. Renfrewshire
MCKENZIE Janet 20 B. Renfrewshire
MCKENZIE William 4 b. Renfrewshire
MCKENZIE John 21 b. Renfrewshire
Address: Roxburgh St, Greenock-Renfrewshire
I can't see any children on IGI for them except for Elizabeth b. 1849. Your best route may be through the censuses for 1851/61 to determine what other children they had.
Regards.

That was quick :) Yes, they definately had an Elizabeth in 1849. These two have been only one pair of many "deadends" (I think I'm supposed to call them "brickwalls" or something :) ) in my family history for more than a few years and I thank you for this info. I just hope that someone recognises these names as part of "their" family history. I sometimes feel like I am "the end of the line" in my family ::)
Many thanks,
Anne

Keep plugging on, if only for your own curiosity. Most people, and I include me (!), seldom make the big connections. Most of the fun (oh yes and frustration) comes from putting the pieces together and making some sense of it.
Good luck.

Hi Monica,
Thanks for that ;) I have been tracing my family (officially) since 1994 but my wee granny was giving me loads of info for 30 years before that :) Once started, never given up!

Hi Monica,
Just noticed on your post that you are reseaching the Moran family from Co Mayo. My brother-in-law is descended from a Moran family in Co Mayo. His great, great grandmother was a Mary Moran m Myles Gibbons 1864 in Aghagower, Co Mayo.

Hi Monica,
I have checked John and Janet's OPR Banns and Marriage entry and John is indeed a Ropemaker, so this family looks likely to be them. Thanks for info.
Hi Michele,
I haven't come across a Jane McDougall marrying in 1847. This would probably put her birth year in the mid to late 1820's or early 1830's (although I do have a an irregular marriage of a 13yr 8mth old female to a 20 yr old male in Dumfriesshire) If I should come across a Jane McDougall in my search I will let you know. I am currently looking for a Dugald McDougall born abt 1826, goodness knows where, but probably Scotland and possibly Argyle or the Western Isles.
Good luck in your search,
Anne

Hi, I just wanted to make contact about your McDougall connections. I just posted information about my family line but wondered if you had any link with the Eckford/Caverton Mill family?
thanks

Hi Lisa,
I don't know of any connection to Eckford/Caverton Mill as yet, never say never.
To date, all of my McDougalls have settled in the Greenock area during the mid 19th Century, having left Argyllshire.

Hi Anne, I also have McKenzies from Renfrewshire but I just checked and my John wasn't born until 1828 (too young!). However there may be some link... My Johns father was Murdoch McKenzie who married Agnes McPherson. Have you ever come across these during your research?
-
Hi liverpool lass,
Sorry, I haven't come across your names, so far, never say never.
I can't find out much about this pair I'm afraid so I tend to leave them for a while then go back every now and then.
If I come Murdoch or Agnes in my search I will let you know.

Anne, I noticed your brother-in-law is descended from Myles Gibbons and Mary Moran, who were married in Aghagower, Mayo, Ireland. If this is the same family, they lived in Cushin (near Westport), Mayo, Ireland from about 1861-1905. I am looking for more information on Myles and Mary and their 7 or more children. If your brother-in-law has any information that he'd be willing to share, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
