Title: COMPLETED All requests will be answered privately and successes posted on forum
Post by: bjo on Monday 18 September 06 23:19 BST (UK)
I will be going to Flanders on 10th November to be there for the rememberance day on the 11th.
Hope to be at the Menin Gate for 8 p.m.
I will be going to Tyne Cot to once again see the great wall of names where my Grandfather is remembered.
If anyone would like me to take any photos of relatives names or graves I will be happy to.  I hope to be going to a few war graves including the German cemetert at Langemark.
As much detail as possible to enable me to find the correct place.
Hope to visit a few places around Ypres in the 4 days that I will be there.
Regards
Brenda

Hi Prue,
Just found your relative on the CWGC site and there were easy direction to the site. So will make a point of getting there
Brenda

Directions to Menin Rd South:
Menin Road South Military Cemetery is located 2 kilometres east of Ieper town centre, on the Meenseweg (N8), connecting Ieper to Menen. From Ieper town centre the Meenseweg is located via Torhoutstraat and right onto Basculestraat. Basculestraat ends at a main crossroads, directly over which begins the Meenseweg. The Cemetery is located 800 metres along the Meenseweg on the right hand side of the road.

Thanks Brenda!  I should think old Arthur will be pleased to be having a visitor - as far as I know, one of my cousins has been the only person to visit him in 90 years  :'(

I feel the geography of where the various cemetaries are located, is something I should know, but to my eternal shame I don't.

I'm guessing that Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Lacouture is going to be some way away from the area you will be visiting?

Hi Mogsmum,
As far as I know the cemetary that you mention is actually France rather than Belgium.
I did a quick search and came up with this:
http://ww1cemeteries.com/ww1frenchextension/vieillechapelle.htm
Unfortunately I shall not be in France, however maybe another trip next year would allow me to find the area,

Brenda

Dear Brenda,
although I don't have anyone for you to look for, I just wanted to say a very heartfelt thank you for your kind gesture.

As an ex serviceman who cannot begin to put into words the respect I have for 'fallen' comrades, your offer to reunite those who made the ultimate sacrifice with their relatives is a wonderful gesture.

Thank you.

With very warm wishes.

Hello Ian,
I shall certainly try to find your request.
The cemetery is located 32km east of Ieper.  So a bit away from some of the well known places.
I will try to get there to get your photo.
Kind regards
Brenda

This has been put up before and could probably do with a 'sticky'. For Military grave photos of allmost anywhere in the WW1 & WW2 theatres, Try
http://www.britishwargraves.org.uk/
Hundreds of volunteers from all over the world are available if the one you want has not already been taken

Hello Debbie and Dominic and Chris,
I have got your notes for the graves that you would like photographed and will do my best to locate them and take some photographs to send to you.
I have an email address for Dominic. If Debbie and Chris could send me their email address privately.  I can hopefully send photos to them when I return.
Regards Brenda
p.s. Ray  I have never actually found any of my relatives graves on the site that you mention.  I did find one of the requests that I have and there was a 'voluntary' charge of £5-£10 to view the grave,
I shall be undertaking the project of finding anybody's memorial / grave totally free because I shall enjoy doing it and it gave me a great satisfaction to see my Grandfather's name on Tyne Cot's wall.
That's not to say that the site is purely commercial and is probably doing a good job on a larger scale than my personal quest.

Hi Brenda,
Are you sure that it was the British War Memorial Project that you were looking at? There is another site that I have heard of that does charge I believe, but as a volunteer that has taken and supplied several hundred to BWMP I would be very annoyed to find that they are asking for a 'donation' it was never mentioned when I volunteered to join in at my own expense.

Hello Ray
Yes, I followed your link and decided to try to find a photo of one of the requests that has been made:
Percy Challinor...Irish House Cemetery.
This is from the result on that search on the site:

How much does it cost?
We don't charge for photos, but do politely suggest that you donate £5 or £10 for either emailed or posted - respectively. Donations in excess of these amounts are of course warmly welcomed. The donation goes towards the cost of printing and mailing photos and helps support the Online Memorial.

Have a search Ray, just to make sure.
Here is the link for the above named fellows grave photo:

Yes Ray,
Those details were on the website.

Hello BJO,

I think you are AMAZING to offer to take pics for so many people !

There is an elderly lady in our village that I go and chat to regularly; we were talking about her Uncle Ossy, who died in Ypres ... and I suddenly remembered I'd seen this thread !

Is it at all possible you are going near to Chester Farm Military Cemetery ??

If so, she would dance with delight to receive a pic of her Uncle Ossy's grave (despite her creaky hips and dodgy back !)

I'll send you a personal message with her Uncle's details ... I havent told her about this, just in case it doesn't happen !

Many thanks ... Lydart

Hi Lydart,
A personal message should be on its way to you.
I shall try my hardest to find Uncle Ozzy and get a nice photograph.  I hope that I can as it would make your old lady friend happy.

Brenda

Are you going to Aubers Ridge Cemetery?  If so I would be so grateful if you could take a photograph of war reference VIII  B 1 - Private W Duffy, Service No 25232.

I am looking for this all over the net with no success.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Deb,
I will be going to Belgium next month and unfortunately the cemetery that you mention (Aubers Ridge) is in France.
I would have been happy to take a photo had your Private W Duffy been remembered in Belgium.
Sorry I could not help.
