I'm trying to find information on the Tittley (Titley) family.
I have Margaret Tittley born Church Stretton 1793, parents Thomas Titley and Mary.
Margaret married John Mager in Church Stretton in 1819. There are several Thomas Titleys born around 1700 in Shropshire (Westbury, Shifnal ...)but how to know which one is the right one?
Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi Pat :),
Are these them,
Church Stretton Darish Begisters.
19 Jun 1785 Thomas Titley & Mary Marston.
08 Aug 1789 Samuel, s. of Thomas & Mary Titley bap.
17 Apr 1794 Martha & Margt, daus. of Thomas & Mary Titley bap.
Knowing the names of the first born children can sometimes help, you dont happen to know them do you?, The closest I can get to John Mager is,
Shropshire: Worthen - Parish Registers, Hereford Diocese
03 Oct 1793 John, s. of Thomas & Anne Maghear bap.
Best wishes,
Pete, :) :)

Hello Pete,
I think that's my Titley family, the dates correspond.
I've only just discovered that I had ancestors from Shropshire called Titley so I don't know anything about them really.
John Mager is on the 1841 census with Margaret and daughters Mary and Ann. They're living in Wenlock, parish of Madeley. I can't make out his occupation and am waiting for Ann's marriage cert which should give it.
Is that very far from Worthen.
The date of 1793 corresponds to John's birth and I've discovered that Mager has many different spellings on the censuses.
Thanks for your interest and help.
Best regards,
Pat

I think John's occupation in 1841 is joiner.
These baptisms in Worthen all have parents Thomas and Ann, from IGI
John Maghear 1791
Thomas Major/Mugre/Magger 1796
Sarah 1799
Elizabeth Magger 1803
Mary Magger 1805
Elinor Magger 1808
Margaret Magger 1812

Thanks for looking alnat. That must be my John Mager's family. There don't seem to be any more around that time. I'll know better when I receive John's marriage cert.

I am also looking for a Titley family from Wombridge/Shifnal Shropshire area. I am looking in particular for a marriage of a Thomas Titley in the area sometime prior 1799 to someone named Sarah. They had a son in 1799 Richard who married Mary Beard.
Thomas Titley was born 24th September and baptised at Shifnal 02.10.1774 son of Hopkin and Elizabeth Titley nee ?
Would welcome any assistance in getting further on this branch of the family
I have completed up to Richard Titley although would welcome info on his 7 children to include in my family history writing.

Hello again
Since posting on Thomas son of Hopkin & Elizabeth I have found another Thomas Tittley that fits my history again at Shifnal 07.02.1779 son of William Titley and Lydia nee Cadman
William Tittley married Lydia Cadman 12.07.1767 they had
Mary 29.02.1768 Shifnal
Ann 13.04.1770 Madeley
Ann 14.02.1773 Madeley
William 10.09.1775 Shifnal
Thomas 07.02.1779 Shifnal
Sarah 01.03.1781 Shifnal
Now don't know which is mine. Lydia I think was from Wombridge which is the same place as Thomas baptised his son Richard in 1799.
Anyone know were I go from here

William Titley born 1746 married Lydia Cadman in Shifnal on 12 Jul 1767 (look on Ancestry for photo of this marriage). It was witnessed by James Price and John Roberts. The Vicar was John Brooke. Both Lydia, William and witness James Price made a mark rather than signing their name. John Roberts signed his name. They were both of the parish. John Roberts seemed to be a witness on the other marriages in the church too.
Lydia and William had children: Mary, Ann and William
William then died. (William Titley of Hatton buried aged 29 28 May 1775, Shifnal) and Lydia went on to have 2 illegitimate children
Thomas's mother was Lydia Titley of Hatton, widow "Thomas the base son of Lydia Titley of Hatton, widow".
Thomas 07 Feb 1779 14 Feb 1779 Shifnal
Sarah 01 Mar 1781 25 Mar 1781 Shifnal
Thomas is thus the one who married Sarah, and had Richard who married Mary Beard (who then had Ann who married Thomas Hall - which is my line)
