Is anyone able to search the Parish records to find details of Baptism for both father and son named David Price born 1825 and 1849 respectively? Both give Glasbury as their place of birth in later censuses and marriage cert of David born 1849. Would really appreciate details of siblings and parents as well as defined area.
Not sure if Glasbury is found under Hay district?
Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Not baptised at Maesyronnen Chapel
-
Thank you so much for this info. Could you please clarify for me exactly where the chapel you mentioned is as I live in Surrey and only know Glasbury as a visitor?
-
Masyronnen is a chapel up in the hills north of Glasbury, it is one of the first Chapels in he area. 1691 is the date believed to have been it beginning in a farmhouse
They are not down as baptised at St Peter's Church in Glasbury either.
But churches wre often out of repair and other churches were used.
It might be worth getting the birth certificates from Hay register office to see where David number 2 was born.
Hay Register Office
Broad Street
Hay on Wye HR3 5BX
There is a David Price son of Ann baptised in 1841 in HAy but the only one I can see locally.
The border between Radnorshire and Breconshire is no help here either ! HAve you tried Powys Family History Society ? They have a website.
-
There are some details of the churches that serve the Glasbury area here

You could try posting your request on the Breconshire board as well.
-
Many thanks - I have tried looking on all the censuses but to no avail either. I will try the Brecon board as well.
-
Sorry will also get to Hereford and Powys record offices when I can as I know David (born 1849) and his second wife Margaret nee Wanklin ended up living at Byecross in Hereford - they were my paternal gran's parents.
But trying to get further back on this line really has proved difficult.

Is that the David and Margaret Price living in Preston on Wye on the 1901 census ?
-
Yes that is correct. Their daughter Lily was my grandmother.

I have found a David and Margaret with children including twins in Cwmdu in Breconshire farming - is this them ?

There seem to be a number of David Prices born in Glasbury - funny they do not show up in the church records for baptism
-
Yes, that is them too. It really has been a problem as you can see. I too have found quite a few David Prices from Glasbury but no idea which 2 are the ones I need.
Many thanks for all your help and perseverence with this search.
Best wishes

I think trying to get David number 2's birh certificate from Hay Register Office is the best idea at present.
-
Were both his wives called Margaret ?
He seems to have married young looking at the ages of the children on the 1881 census.
-
I only know about his second wife who was Margaret Wanklin. He was a widower when he married her. 10/3/1875 date of marriage. Believe that a half brother was named Walter. Oldest child from second marriage was Albert - only able to trace him on 1891 census - believed to have gone to S Africa with half brother Walter.
Other children from 2nd marriage-
Matilda
Edith
Gertrude
Margaret Alice (Known as Alice)
Frederick David
Lily (my grandmother)
Reginald Spencer (often called Spencer)
Thanks again

Have you found him on the 1871 census ?
-
Thanks for contacting me again. I have found info on the 1841 census and 1871 census but am not sure if they are the correct Davids as I do not know the area that well to recognise small villages/hamlets that may be close to Glasbury. Could you email me direct at Moderator Comment: email address removed to prevent spam and other abuses. In fact looking at the details I think the only real possibility is on the 1871 census which lists a David Price resident in Radnor Hereford lodging with a widow, Gwenny Davies a farmer of 30 acres - however he is listed as unmarried aged 43 and a Farm servant born Cwmdidur Radnorshire.
I know that from later censuses and the little family knowledge that by 1901 he was a farmer employing men so I do wonder if this is the same David. It is very strange that I can only find details of the family on later censuses ie 1891 and 1901.
The mystery continues.
Thanks again

Hi,
Cwmdidur is Cwmdauddwr, which is the opposite side of Radnorshire to Glasbury
-
Is this the family on the 1851? The ages are out, but the birthplaces are in the right area.
2491/84/1 Coed-y-collen Cottage,
PRICE David, h, m, 40, ag labourer, born BRE Bronllys,
PRICE Elizabeth, w, m, 36 born BRE Glasbury
PRICE Elizabeth, d,, 11, scholar, born BRE Aberllynfi
PRICE James, s,, 6, scholar, born BRE Aberllynfi,
PRICE David, s,, 4,, born BRE Aberllynfi,
Aberllynfi, better known as Three Cocks.
-
Thanks so much again - this does seem like a possibility but as you say the dates are out. However, I understand that often dates were incorrectly entered. How close is Three Cocks to Glasbury? Sorry for my ignorance.

Just up the road ...........
-
Thanks again. I suppose these dates are the thing that has caused the problem as I've always presumed that these are not the correct Davids.
