Post by: La Manga on Saturday 07 October 06 13:48 BST (UK)
Can any one root around their parish records. I'm looking for a Richard Turner born 1777. Would like parents and siblings info if at all possible ::). I know it's not an easy one , my lot were always awkward.
Thanks in advance

I'll have a look next time I go to the Archives, the Turners were one of the oldest families in Ridgeway and I think they are still there, these signatures will be of the same family

Thanks Omskirk.
The signatures are fantastic, if it wasn't for the date I would have said my Dad had signed it ,The John Turner is soooo like his, same J ,T and r most uncanny. It fair sent shivers down my back as Dad died 3 months ago.
Sadly I think when we left the village in 1968 we took the Turner name out of there, I don't recall any paternal cousins left behind. At least not with the name Turner. Funnily when Dad moved there in 1953 from Beighton I'm not sure he realized his gggrandfather, and a few generations back, had come from there.
If only I had known I'd be doing this now I would have photocopied the Parish records ;D.
Anyway I regress (memories ::))
Most appreciated and Thankyou very much
Jac.
P.S. is it alright to copy the page of signatures?

This is from a rare book called Ridgeway & It's Industries, I can get you the ISBN number and you can order it through your Library, It is long out of print, written by Mr Fox who lived next door but one to you {I think} but before your time, I think he died in 1950.
I have replied to your PM

Thankyou for looking. I had googled with no luck, so I guess its one I'll just have to hope on ;D
Must say you have set the memories going about the village and its people.
Mind you have to grin. I set out doing this looking for relatives and end up in the village where I was born and find my babysitter  ;D ;D.   Always did things wrong ;)

Just had a look at your website for Ridgeway... You have done a good job and I have founds lots of the surnames I am researching... Barker, Marples, and Hardwick... So thank you again for taking the time to record the bmd from the parish registers...  I am still searching for the marriage of George Barker and Hannah Marples but I think I have found out where George was born.  So now am wondering if they got married there..

Cheers

Dear Anne,
Thank you, I will eventually be putting the rest of the Parish registers on, the ones so far are from St Johns from 1841, the rest are mixed in with Eckington so it will be a big job sorting the Ridgeway ones out from the Eckington ones ::) I will also be transcribing ALL the census for Ridgeway but as you will appreciate this takes time, I will put them on as I do them

I do appreciate that it takes time... Our small genealogy group (about 10  people) are transcribing the bmd information out of our local newspaper.. Have been doing this for a couple of years now....  We are down to the last couple of binders.. I must say it has been really interesting reading the old newspapers and reconizing the surnames of families I know..  Even found a picture of my self in there, I had forgotten about that..  I was about 19 when it was taken... Just a few years ago....

Cheers
Anne

Keep up the good work and serious if I can do anything to help I will. I have loads of time on my hands.

You can call me David ;D I don't mind doing it, I'm retired now so it is a nice warm dry project, I am putting feelers out for old photos and the response so far is promising, but if you are in touch with anyone, ask them what they have, I only want copies so they don't lose anything
